My wife and I were looking for some great music and food, and specifically were looking to avoid the chaos of Bourbon Street. Frenchmen street provides anyone looking to experience the local music scene a great escape from the French Quarter, with great restaurants and bars to choose from.
Lots of places with no cover, so you can pop in and out as the mood strikes. A brass band of young men set up on a street corner and drew a crowd of over 100. This is kind of what you expect from New Orleans (and even a bit more appropriate to show younger kids than Bourbon Street!)
If yoyre looking for dixieland music you'll only find it in one establishment and all they serve other than alcohol is pizza!
Bourbon Street without the strip clubs. Good music in every bar, very casual & friendly, great street vibe. Was really our best experience with the music scene in NOLA just wish we found it the first night. Don't miss it.
We visited Frenchman street on our second evening in New Orleans. We tried to get into a couple of different clubs but they were too crowded. We ended up at the 30 90, which appeared to be a new addition to the area. We were lucky enough to get a table right in front, we had an enjoyable evening listening to the music.
We saw a little of this street - a night market and went to the spotted cat for music - great. Lots of music on this street.
