I rode my bike along here, easy and serene. Love that you can stop at a cafe and relax while watching the bird life hover over the ocean. There are markers along the route to let you know how far you've gone. I went out to the 5km mark and returned to town. Fantastic 'whale back bone' shaped bridge on the route too. You can see Mt Taranaki from her on a good weather day.
This is a brilliant walkway stretching the length of the seafront. There are lots of access points and also you can branch off and follow shady paths along streams.
This is a must do. Take the family, walk or bike. Its free and a great wy to see the coast. If visiting taranaki you can hirer bikes to ride.
coastal walk along New Plymouth....delightful! Along sea and next to town.....lovely! Very nice for bikes or walking.
Somewhere to check out if you have a few hours to spare in New Plymouth.Unfortunately for myself I got absolutely soaked 30 minutes so eh check the weather forecast. The bridge is pretty cool. It's meant to be a surf break but looks more like a whale carcass to me.I felt the signposts could be laid out a bit better at the start mind you as not sure if I was on walkway or grounds of some massive factory.
Most enjoyable . Our Probus group only walked on part of the walkway - but it was great. Especially enjoyed the Len Lye Windwand. We took the bus up to the Bridge - What a sight -It was my favourite part of New Plymouth. What ever you do in new Plymouth - dont miss it. Of course it was a perfect day with the Mountain standing tall for us to see. Even if the cloud is down- the bridge is worth seeing in its own right.
Need to watch out for cyclists who appear to give the opinion tht they own the Walkway. Na easy walk at what pace you feel comfortable with. The surf Club good for a drink/food along the way.
Really well maintained walkway. We didn't walk all of it. Walked half to two thirds. Well used by locals out biking and running. Can be quite narrow with lots of bikes using it.
This is a delightful way to exercise. Lots to see and plenty of people watching too. Great to have a walk like this away from the traffic but with East places to park nearby. New Plymouth is certainly blessed to have this facility
Should have a couple pub stops. Scenic walk indeed, mind the cyclists, there a loads. Loads of great photo opportunities as well.
