I have been to numerous fairs, including this one at least two dozen times. It has improved immensely over the years and is now one of the best maintained and cleanest carnival areas I have visited. There is easy access for wheel chairs and plentiful outdoor seating for old folks that need frequent rests. As for the Sudome: I have been to a variety of events in it. It is a valuable asset to Yakima tourism. It is large enough to accomodate a variety of events with a plentiful clean bathrooms.
This fair still has the charm of what a fair should be. It's not to Commercial like puyallup fair turned into.
Yakima Valley Sundome didn'tt give prople a very good experiance during the state 1B,2B & 1A Vollyball tournements. The food is way too expensive for most of the parents and sibilings. I do believe it is called gouging the public. The building is too small and entrances to the bleachers and seats were always clogged. The bathrooms are a joke! You either have to push the cold or the hot water to rinse your hands, but not both. That was was not good when both of your hands were soapy. You either scalded your hand or froze it. As for the sections of bleachers & seats you decided that each team would be sectioned off according to the brackets. One team would always be home and the other team would always be visitors. The visitors always had to set off to the right of the court so there for we didn't have good filming view of the court for our team. And we were also told rudely by one of the home team supervisors to leave their section. We were there by 7:30 Friday morning. Not noticing the signs you posted we seated ourselves, but were rudely told to leave at 8:00 a.m. We paid just as much as anyone else to watch our girls play vollyball. It should be first come, first serve. I don't remember anyone telling us at the gate we were paying for certian seats. I will do everything I can in the future to have all the 1B & 2B changed back to Spokane. At least they appreciate us and like having us there. Your workers at the SunDome act like the games can't get over fast enough. Rude, Rude, Rude the whole time.
Obviously the best time to go is during the fair which is usually the last part of September. Always have decent shows and other stuff going on throughout the year.
ok now that the fair is over i will write my review. i really like this fair alot. we have grandkids 8 and 9 years old. it is just perfect for them and probably will be for another 3 to 4 years based on the type of rides they have. the vendors are limited to not a lot of junk that will break once you leave the fair. the people here are real friendly and happy to be here. that goes for the fairgoers to the people that have booths. what a real nice change from the Puyallup fair that i refuse to go to. that fair is overpriced, people visiting and workers just have a pissy attitude probably due to the length of time the fair runs and the low quality of people that work that fair. we are already making plans for the Yakima fair for 2015
Visit the fair in Sept. Lots to see - even ride a camel!Sawyer Brown & others came. The vendors in the Sundome were cool too . . .
The annual fall fair (central wa. state fair) is held at State Fair Park every Sept/Oct for 10 days and is a great family fun event. There are many activities and events that happen at the State Fair Park and SunDome (individually and collectively). There are many concerts, sports events and shows of all kinds.
I can not stress enough how sad and unsightly this facility is. Let me rant in a bullet style rave about how pitiful and poorly run this place is in bullet points:* Restrooms are broken down, poorly lighted, smelly and not maintained with soap or paper towels, the water at the sinks runs for 2 seconds then shuts off.*The Concession stand is overpriced and does not take Credit or Debit Card, but they are willing to rob you at the ATM to get cash*The exhibitor lounge area for use is a small windowless dungeonlike prison cell with one table and 2 chairs*The outside food policy is STRICTLY enforced to the point that management deems it necessary to have 3 people gang up on you to force you to the dungeon to eat a sandwich. They are afreaid the "patrons may see your food and think they can bring in stuff to"* Above point is not enforced on their own employees as I routinely saw the toothless old lady checking hand stamps with her own OUTSIDE beverage cup for 7Eleven everyday!
Nice staff, okay food. Wish their AC was a little higher especially in the evening but a great venue for a big event.
We went to the Monster Truck event at the state fair. I was disappointed for the following reasons: We purchased reserved seats not knowing there were tons of free seats, we also had to purchase tickets to the fair even though we were only going to the Monster Truck event - there should be a separate entrance, we had to pay for parking, AND there were ONLY 2 Monster trucks that performed for a total of about 10 minutes. We drove 100 miles - HUGE disappointment and NOT worth it!
