My experience with the zoo was very rewarding to my grandkids and myself. The exhibits and animals was a delight for my grandkids. Easy access to area staff was great and we can't forget the train ride it was awesome.
there's plenty to see here including a Louisiana section. most of the animals looked relatively content and not especially stressed (the white tiger did a lot of pacing). due to cold some animals were inside and according to one attendant the lion is young, afraid of "everything", doesn't like people, and the tigers are very, very young and like to hide in their "boxes". no elephants, giraffes and the like, but different type monkeys, SA rodents. and...lots of bird species from SA and NA.all in all not too bad and the price reasonable. happy trails.
I don't have much negative to say except that that staff isn't too friendly, BUT the animals look to be healthy and well taken care of. The zoo is decent price range so anyone can afford to come here and for the price, it's a large zoo. It's amazing that they are able to keep the price so low. People forget how much it costs to feed these animals.
This was a great little zoo enclosures were well maintained and clean. Most importantly the animals looked healthy and well cared for almost seemed happy. One of the best small zoo's I have been too. The staff was friendly and spoke with us but watching them interact with the animals was awesome everyone seemed to genuinely love the animals. I would definitely recommend a visit to anyone.
very wide range of animals and habitat for the size of town and zoo. well maintained, well staffed, animals in great shape.
Quality of animals is excellent for this well managed zoo. Good variety and seperate exhibits are unique and well planned. Nice place to spend the day..There is even a train ride for all to enjoy
Hubby and I often visit zoos in the cities we visit and were glad that GM Chris Patel at the Comfort Suites recommended we not miss the one on Alexandria. We're glad we took his advice. Although not the largest we've been to by far, we very much enjoyed our visit and think you will too. We really enjoyed how the naturalistic Cajun Bayou look and the winding, wandering, shady paths. The leopards were our favorite and I loved seeing the giant anteater. Keep in mind this isn't a big zoo. They do have about 500 animals and lots to see with the tigers and lions being the biggest, but don't expect elephants, giraffes, hippos, rhinos, great apes. I think you'll be happy with the alligators, caimans, bears, eagles, owls, snakes, fish, tapirs, cabybara, giant tortises, etc. $7 admission, free parking.
The Alexandria Zoo was a very pleasant adventure. We were very impressed by the habitats. The zoo was very easy to navigate. Saw several animals that we have never seen before.. Including GIANT ANTEATER, Fennick Fox , and the Golden Lion Tamarin
The Zoo has a big selection of animals. they also have a train tour and a gift shop. The Zoo is very clean and organized.
