Fascinating and beautiful on it's own island with many interesting features you need a guide to show you.
I liked riding the feloka in the river Nile enjoying fresh air and the splendid colored stones till we reached the Great Temple of Philae. Don't miss to have 100s photos every where there.. Magnificent views. Wow..
The whole experience is magnificent, taking the small boat in the Nile to the island, watching many small granite rock islands in the Nile, birds, locals with their colorful customs and beautiful songs, hand made antiques, colored hats at the small port, at the island you enjoy the Philae temple, beautiful cafés and extraordinary views of the Nile. I highly recommend this trip.
A short boat trip gets you to the island where the temple is now- it was moved because of flooding. Once there you cannot believe how big it was- same as all the other temples... fabulous photo opportunities. A hassle free shop and a lovely cafe that sold really nice mugs of coffee....and twinkies!! what is that all about??
You approach this Temple by boat. It has a long history from the Pharaohs, to the Romans, to the Christians, and it is the use of the Temple by the early Christians that make it so fascinating. But the most amazing thing is that it was moved from it's original island which was submerged when the first Aswan Dam was built. Walking around it we couldn't believe that it had been taken apart and rebuilt. Well worth a visit.
Wonderful preserved temples rescued to an island between the old and new Aswan dams. Don't miss this as it has a huge variety of interesting buildings and monuments. Worth having a cup of tea and relaxing. If arriving independently, beware of the ferrymen and rows over charges!
The Philae Temple is the main attraction in Aswan. The original temple had been flooded several times. In order to prevent its damage, especially during the construction of The Aswan Dam, the UNESCO Nubia Campaign project dismantled the temple and reassembled it on the Agilkia Island. A short boat ride will take you there where you will see the beauty of the preserved temple. This temple had been dedicated to the Goddess Isis. The Sound and light show is displayed there in the evening.
Is an island in the Nile with beautiful landscapes and relatively preserved with beaultiful and some scratches on behalf of the Christian occupation there centuries ago.
I think this is one of the temples that was moved due to flooding. it is beautiful and as its on an island it is peaceful . You cant help be amazed at how it was all build and how wealthy they must have been
We were on 20 minutes drive and then 10 minutes boat ride to Philae Temple. The temple complext is well looked after and the scenery is stunning. The interiors are clean and well lit. The complex is superb.
