The self-tour guide is solid. The Egyptian collection is what the Carlos is known for and is excellent. Worth an hour or two
After taking a tour of Emory University, we decided to check out the museum. It is very pleasant and has some really nice pieces. It is a very relaxing place to wonder around and look at Greek, Asian, Egyptian, and the Americas art. The museum is not super big so it isn't overwhelming. I really enjoyed being there.
I found it very informative and extremely useful for students. You need to plan for more than 2 hours, because it seems small and is so much to see!
This is a great little museum on the Emory campus in Atlanta. An exceptional collection of Egyptian antiquities .
This museum has a fantastic collection of Greek Egyptian and South American artifacts that are pristine and beautifully restored. Also, their collection of Egyptian mummies is out of this world! Plus, it's so well laid out. If you're a bookworm, I would also recommend a visit to the gift shop. Lots of interesting and unusual titles, with all kinds of books for kids.
As far as I know this, is the only museum in the southeast that has a permanent mummy exhibit. It is not the largest museum, but it is worth the trip to the Emory University campus.
*****The bookstore (giftshop) is amazing!!!!!! Make sure to check it out. Lot's of obscure titles. This museum is wonderful for lovers of art, history, travel, and more! I finally went and it was amazing! The displays are wonderfully done, the specimens are unique and beautiful. You will pay about 8 bucks to get in and 7 bucks parking. It is tucked into the Emory campus but the signage is pretty good and people will help you. I won't upload my pics (they are the same as most of the others) or tell you about every item but it is lovely. I think this is way up on the list of Atlanta attractions.
Great collection of early pottery and other manmade objects, but could be better labeled or described.
Usually museums can get a little boring, but not the Carlos museum. I love going to visit on a rainy afternoon.
If you are interested in objects thousens of years old ( pottery, mummies, jewelery), that's the place to go. I have seen it in so many museums around the world...so for me it was not that interesting. But it was a cold rainy day, we were close by after visiting the CDC museum, so we went there. The building itself is nice from the inside. And before you wast your money in world of coca cola, go to Michael C. Carlos Museum. Better Joice. A lot of kids were there with there parents , I think that's a great opportunity for family education.
