Great and very interesting place to wander round with a mix of fixed exhibits and real people talking about life there in the past.Note: they give a 20% discount for people who stay in local hotels, a fact we only learned after we had paid and been round!
Very interesting, and well worth a visit, thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and strongly reccomend a visit.
Very authentic staff and so much to see. Everyone was just so helpful.Included court house, old and new jails and exhibits as well as life stories of the people who passed through the jail. Highly recommended.
Brilliant experience , we have been to the Jail approx. 4 times over the past 8 years that we have been visiting Scotland, Each and every time we enjoy the whole experience, very informative whilst being fun, well worth a visit - highly recommend.
Nice place to visit. It can be a little cold as it's a very old building. It feels a little draughty and a little over priced for what you receive.
Brilliant display. Well presented, helpful guide and excellent shop. Exhibition a bit pricey but worth it.
This is well worth a visit, I have been three times and still enjoy it. The stories around the jail are very interesting and to see how they were treated and how they lived and how the court is set up is really an experience.
I stayed in Inveraray with my two children 8 and 12 for a wee getaway for a couple of days. Our first stop was here, we arrived right at the point of opening 10 am first ones in...a very helpful member of staff greeted us, paid the entrance fee, too which was reasonable and began our tour. We started at the exibition of torture of old times very interesting what they did in the 1830's!! Then carried on out to the "outdoor excercise area" where we were met by THE WARDEN who which gave us a insight to what prison life was like 150 years ago, he was full of information very, very interesting. Carried on through the old prison where even children as youg as 7 were put if they stole anything. Then visited the new prison right next door walked in to the first cell were we saw what I thought was a statue of a prisoner, we walked in, when I heard a grunt from this statue, it gave us a scare but no information on the new jail unlike "THE WARDEN" previously, this chap didn't look like he wanted to be here. Carried on round the rest of the jail and really enjoyed it. Would recommend this place to anyone.
Liked the Court with waxwork models re-inacting a murder trial. Quite interesting if it is a rainy day although you have to go outside to gain entrance to the cells.
Very interesting tour of the prison.certaily wouldnt like to have been around in the days it was in use.A very forboding place..Well worth a visit.
