My family and friends have gone to many shows over the years. They are always enjoyable and entertaining. There is usually a variety of shows that appeal to many, parking is close to the front doors and you can count on running into someone you know. The interior is beautiful going back in time. Variety of beverages and snacks available. Staff very friendly. Overall a great place to spend an evening.
I was surprised and thrilled to see that The Strand had contracted with cult film director, John Waters. Being a follower of his movies over the past 40 years, I find his satire and irreverent humor are polar opposite from the traditional, conservative York County culture. We had great seats, but really, every seat in the Strand provides a great view and great acoustics. After the performance, John stayed and had a book signing until his last fan was satisfied - he's a true professional. The Strand continues to have a wonderful, old fashioned ambiance - and lots of volunteers to seat us. Parking is available in the municipal lot across the street - and will cost $$ depending on the day of the week and time of the day you park. However, it is safe - we've never had any issues or concerns.Bathrooms are old, but clean and functional. Snacks and beverages are available in the lobby.
Love the Strand and love John legend!Thank you Strand for nailing him for us! I am in your debt !Amazing night!
Everything from the ease of parking, to the outstanding show selection, to the superb staff made the evening spectacular.
While the facility is still beautiful; we went for a Christmas celebration with Michael MacDonald and you could count the holiday songs on one hand. If we had an interest in hearing his other music, we would have looked for that type of event. The advertising was, at best, deceptive when it included Christmas and holiday in the title.
There are two venues here; the Strand is elegant for formal performances like concerts, ballet and plays. The York Symphony Orchestra performs here and is quite good. The Strand is informal and often used for children's performances. Municipal parking is convenient and at reasonable cost across the street. The farmer's market is around the corner. Art galleries and restaurants nearby. My only disappointment was when a Russian ballet troupe performed. The music was recorded and there were no sets, just a curtain in the background.
Large enough to attract great talent, small enough to enjoy! No bad seats and nicely restored for an upscale evening!
You can't beat the Strand for the ultimate entertainment experience in York. Like going back in time several decades, the interior has been remodeled to pretty much it's original condition, with the exception of the updated food and beverage stations, now serving a much wider and higher quality selection of spirits and food. We recently saw Penn & Teller... and like previous posters have indicated, there is nary a bad seat in this venue. A very wide variety of acts perform here, so given the opportunity, I would see my favorites at The Strand, not only for the convenience, but for the ambiance as well.
We recently saw Penn and Teller with our family. We had a wonderful evening. The theatre gets a lot of great performers to come to the area. The theatre is also surrounded by a lot of wonderful restaurants that you can go to before the show. The theatre is beautiful with really no bad seats in the house. It's a real gem in the city!!
We try to get to at least 3 shows a year at the Strand. In October we saw 38 Special in concert there and it was a great show. There wasn't a bad seat in the house! Never thought of rocking it out at the Strand but it was a great experience. Bathrooms are always clean and the staff there is always kind. Parking is easy right across the street in the garage.
