We have never used this beach. It is nice, but it is right in downtown. There is a park, playground, and bandstand as well.Very convenient. Metered parking at all york beaches.
Great family beach for family with restaurants, shops, and activity areas all within walking distance. The waves are good for body surfer and no undertow that I am aware of. Life guards are on duty during the summer. Water temperature is brisk/refreshing. f you are coming on a weekend in the summer for day only bring change and come early to ensure parking.
Pretty little beach, great to walk or jog in Fall months. Loved just sitting and watching the waves.Only one disturbing factor is dogs running and playing on beach , which is fine but dog owners need to have their pups curbed and not pee on the sand. Horrified to see one dog owner allow his huge breed dog squat in the ocean and poop for several long minutes. Not cool!
Sitting on our balcony, it made for a lovely Maine-ish view... but for beachwalking, you're better to drive a bit west, pay for street parking, and walk Long Sands Beach.
Always fun to go to Short Sands ... love to walk around and window shop (or shop shop) and have some good food at nice places!
Sweet little beach right in the heart of town...white sand and plenty of room to spread out early and late in the season. Hugh season does bring the crowds, so stake your spot early in the morning.Nice surf and fun to watch the surfers try to manage the waves.
Love this area, quiet yet just the right amount of small town business. Everything I have always imagined this area would be like. Beach was tons of fun for the kids and not overly crowded, space for everyone. High tide and low tide offered so much on both ends for water activity and tidepool searching. Kids found lots of crabs, starfish, shells, etc. The town was cute and had lots to offer from tasty coffee in the morning to the best lobster roll I have ever eaten. Stop at the fun place off the beach for anything you might need, good prices and great people that own it. I wish we had stayed a full week here listening to the waves, relaxing as a family and just taking in life.
beautiful beach, family oriented, get there early, it fills up fast! Great place, nice eateries nearby.
Being local, Short Sands Beach is the last beach out of the 4 York beaches I would choose to go to. Mostly because it's a huge tourist trap. If you have little kids or teenagers and the playground, arcade and surrounding restaurants and shops are what you're looking for, by all means, go to Short Sands Beach. If you're just looking for a day at the beach without all the other gimmicks to go along with it, head to Long Sands and just relax. The new bathhouse at Short Sands is an added bonus to the beach.
This was right around the corner from the place we were staying. I liked that there were plenty of things to see and do while on our walks in the area.
