Nice trails for thos that are hardy hikers. Acommodations look rustic but perfect for those that are not looking for most luxurious rooms. Come prepared to fix your own meals
I rode my horse in and out of Pickett State Park from Big South Fork. I didn't get to see all of the Park, but what I did see was very pretty and had some wildlife.
We just got back from a camping trip at Pickett and it was awesome. This park is so nice and convenient. The camp hosts were greatand they even sold big bags of ice for $1 at the bath house. Free firewood was really nice too. My son loved the swinging bridge. The campsites are big and nicely set-up with firepit, grill, and big concrete pad with concrete picnic table. The trails were well kept and the swimming area was nice.
This park has it all campground fishing swinging bridge nature trails they also have all terrain vehicle trails but not well marked the trails run all the way into Kentucky with many scenic over looks and so many natural arches that I lost count There is also a mineral lake that you can get to on your atv just don't get in the water with your bike it's deeper than it looks the water is so clean and best of all it cost nothing to ride also there's another camp ground called Cherokee Camp ground that has cabins swimming pool and rv and tent camping near by great people
Since I live in the area it is very easy for me to visit. I go several times a year. I love to walk the trails and watch the wildlife. There are always plenty to see. They have a variety of cabins to rent. There is a very good fishing spot also. You can rent a canoe or take a swim. They have natural arches and several caves. Certain times of the year they have a narrative about the glowworms. Such a peaceful little corner of the world. It really is majestic in winter!!
Every year since I was born my family goes to Jamestown Tennessee for church camp at the Cumberland Grove Wesleyan Camp. We visit as much as we can and stay in the family cabin just to spend a week at Pickett State Park. We love all this park had to offer! They have a sand cave that I have always been fascinated by, and my children are the new generation that just loves this cave. They love to explore it, and carve in the sand stone just like I did! It's so beautiful, and as long as this family lives we will come and enjoy this cave! Also you can rent a canoe, or flat bottom boat for cheap, and they provide life jackets, so you can enjoy the beautiful rock formations, caves, and a waterfall you can row straight to the edge of. It's so cool. My kids love it! You can swim in their beach, and they even have a huge kiddie pool that is nice because I sit right on the edge and get some Sun while they swim and I really don't have to worry as much they can't get to the deep end unless I let them out. (I still watch them the whole time, don't get me wrong.) They have a ping pong table set up in a nice room that is open, but it's got a coke machine and a place to get out of the sun! And I saved my favorite for last the long suspended swinging bridge that leads to some great hiking trails! It's really neat. The list of things to do goes on but those are our favorite things to come and do :)
If you're looking to "get away from it all" this is one of those places. Very isolated from traffic and not too near any restaurants or convenience stores. Stayed in a 3-bedroom Cabin set with 3 others in a fairly wooded area. Very peaceful and most every inch of the cabin seemed clean. Can't say the same for the sheets in my bed. Had some kinda white "crumbs" and one little bitty dead brown bug(NOT a Bedbug). Had to get up and swat white stuff off to the side. Linens were old and top sheet had small burn hole thru it. But Bath Towels and Clothes looked new. No Maid Service during our 3-day stay. I would have been curious to see what other linens looked like. The BIG downside for me was only 4 "local" channels on TV. They DID NOT include any weather, news, or sports information. Only PBS and the CW. And cell service was only available when outside. And that was spotty. Both the Cabin itself and the bathrooms were good-size and nicely appointed. EXCEPT for the tiny little toilet. Design by a 12 yr. old to be used by a 6 yr old. Pitiful!
Cabins are in need of some serious deep cleaning and updates. Had one family member who had bed bugs in one of their bedrooms.
We went to Pickett State Park to ride our dirt bikes. There were a lot of ATVs on the trails versus bikes, but the trails were good for bikes too. It was quite fun with a total variety of terrain and some amazing views at the ends of the trails. We rode all the way up to an amazing cliff view and down to a crystal clear pond. The others on the trails were friendly and we didn't have any issues. Black House Mountain Road quite a bit back and then the parking is obvious. Then ride even further back on the road for a few miles and the trails are awesome!!!!!!!!
Many activities to enjoy. Fishing, boating, hiking, camping, etc. Beautiful scenery, lake and forests.
