What a wonderful setting. The park is a hammock with Live Oak, water Oak,Magnolia Trees. Nestled along the Intercoastal Waterway. The views from the boat ramp reveal Florida as it has been for hundreds of years. You can do many things here at the park. Fishing,Boating Picnicking under some of these majestic oaks, bird watching ( their are many to appreciate ),or just stroll around the beautiful setting. There is a dig site called Mala Compra, ( bad bargain ) in Spanish. The history goes back to the original Spanish settlers and the local indigenous peoples who were here for perhaps thousands of years before. All in all you will be able to appreciate a wonderous and most beautiful setting. The only eye sore is that there is a retail business on the site. Heaven only knows why they would have allowed this venture on such a pristine site,( politics I guess ).In spit of it ,you'll still enjoy the beauty of this location . Take the time, pack up the family and come on over, you'll love it, I'm sure as much as my family does.
Thank you so much for your rave review, Barbara! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed the BLT turkey club. We look forward to your return visit! :)- Capt. Chris
Spent a few hours here during a recent trip to the area so my 3 year old could play on the playground...The area was nice and the playground was a good size for her, but a bit small so maybe not as fun for the bigger kids...There is an archeology exhibit which is interesting...boat launch and picnic tables...There was also a very busy BBQ place with a bait and tackle shop...lots of people eating there as well as picking up to go orders...probably try it the next time we're over that way...
Just happened on this place while waiting for dinner reservation. Interesting to see the remains of an old Florida plantation and learn something about the history of this area.
purely for the local Fishermen and Boatmen, There are static BBQ's but that's it. Like the view but can be crowded at weekends
I loved this place. It's a neat historic site that's been very well done. Nice covered pavilion where you view artifacts. It is wheelchair accessible, has recorded explanations as well as large graphic boards for viewing. It's even lit up. A park has been built around the site. It's got a great playground for kids, large oak trees all around, green grass, plenty of benches, and a covered picnic area. The small boat ramp is quiet. It has benches and walkways and docking areas. Nearby is Captain's BBQ and across the street is an icecream and sandwich place. A bicycle path goes right by. This is a fantastic family area.
Hello Patsyjo1,Thank you for the kind words, the turkey is one of our most juiciest meats and we are happy you keep enjoying it. Come back soon and get some more!-Capt Chris
You have a great view of the Intracoastal Waterway and the wetlands beyond. It has nery nice covered picnic areas and now hosts an excellent BBQ restaurant, Captain's BBQ.
This is a spacious, quiet, canopied and beautiful park right on intercoastal cafe. On park grounds is located the Captain's Barbecue, a wonderful place to eat. You will enjoy it here!
It was pretty but a small area. The water was too cloudy to see anything in it. There were a variety of large birds which were nice to see and take pictures of and the river is pretty with all of the boats going by.
