We went to the zoo, not the bio park. The zoo was very nice, and the animals seemed happy and were very active compared to the El Paso Zoo. Food choices are limited and pricey, but I believe we saw a sign that said they allow outside food?
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the zoo on a warm day in March. Especially moved by the baby monkeys and chimpanzees. Many families were picnicking letting them bring in food to the zoo.
Great variety of animals in excellent enclosures. Walkways and facilities were well maintained and convenient.
If you have one place to visit in ABQ, then the zoo is the place to go. This place has changed enormously since I was a kid and was going there over 40 yrs ago..it's SO beautiful! Great for all ages and walkable without being exhausting (like the San Diego Zoo - beautiful but huge). Don't forget sunscreen! Nice place to get snacks, or bring your own food and lunch in the park. Love the volunteers that tell you about different birds etc that they have on display. This zoo is a model for other zoos - and I've been to a lot. During the summer there are some great concerts in the amphitheater - another plus!
As with the Biological Park (aquarium), the Botanical Park ( our flowers n stuff), and our Bio Park ( our zoo)... timing is of the essence. Save yourselves a little and purchase the package deal. Truly all access to all three parks, and you get to ride on our little..... I cant believe it.... our little trolly train!!!!! That alone makes my day.... and I need to clarify, the concerts in the park I described under the review for the Biological Park is incorrect- those are held here at our ZOO- I do apologize- it was an honest mistake.
Thank you so much for checking in and leaving us a review of our facility!!! We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us. Hopefully in the near future we can have you back again! Have a great spring/summer!
There were many types animals. They were all housed in spaces that were as open as possible. It was a very beautiful zoo.
there is not enough animals and the zoo is kind of dumpy looking. We need to invest some money into this place and make it a show piece for ABQ.
Wow! We went at 9am on a Saturday and this place was great. Not many people and all the animals were up and moving. The staff are very friendly and the signs are easy to read and informative. My only complaint is the layout can be confusing and its easy to miss parts of the park. Make sure you grab a map when you enter so you don't miss anything. Also, if your time for sightseeing is limited, I recommend the zoo only- (not the combo) the 30 min train to and from the aquarium combined with the small aquarium just isn't worth your time.
The ABQ zoo is clean, family friendly and fun. It boasts many exhibits and has lots of hands on extras. Some pros are also that it connects to the BioPark/Aquarium via train (for a fee). There are many food selections. The only downside is the lack of shade which can be discerning during hot ABQ summers.
