steep climbing, great view. need some facilities on the way unless it's OK to pee or more in the wild
Climbing to the Laguna Los Tres and walking back on a beautiful summer's day was stunning and I am so glad I did it although it was really tough for 3 out of the 7-8 hours we were walking. The mountains and the views are so beautiful it makes it all worth it. We are a couple in our late 60's and I am not as fit as most of the others out that day.I especially want to encourage middle-aged people who are reasonably fit to have a go at this hike.
We realized that Torres del Paine is more for trekkers and Fitz Roy area is great for climbers. We are trekkers and like to just leisurely walk. There are multiple trails for any experience level. The routes are marked and times with each route. The scenery is fabulous. The city does not have a lot but they do have some good restaurants and hotels. You are there to see nature!
A great place to hike. Only the last hour is strenuous, but otherwise it is just an enjoyable trek with gorgeous view. If you are not afraid of cold water (4 degrees), jump on the Lagoa dos Tres.
Stunning views, absolutely do not miss this hike. And bring your wind-breaker! However, there are lots of people going up and the trail leaving from town was not very enjoyable. Suggest starting from Hosteria El Pilar.
The best way to see Fitz Roy on a reasonably clear day is to do the hike to Lago de Los Tres. It's a bit of a slog at the end straight up the hill to get to the lake but the payoff is worth it! As has been mentioned in other reviews, the best way is to get a ride to the Hosteria El Pilar and hike to the Lago from there and then back into town. Coming directly from town there is a long slog up the hill that you avoid by coming from El Pilar. If the weather is not clear, it's hardly worth the effort to go to the lake. The view of Fitz Roy is what makes it worth the effort.
One of by best treks ever (to reach Lagune de los Tres). It's so gorgeous. You won't forget this one for a very long time.
One of the most beautiful mountain I saw in my life. It's not the highest, but it has something to it that makes it really, really special. You can see it from the closest village, (El Chalten), but what you really want to do there is do one of the many trekks that the city offers. And there are a little but of everything, going from the 20min all plane, to the several days in the mountain trekks. All the trekks are for free and you don't need to pay any entrance fee to get into the national park, though a stop at the Ranger's is strongly advised : They have all the information you need in order to chose the trekks you want to do, but more important to know how to behave inside the national park.Personal recommendation : do spend a couple of days there : the weather can be cloudy, and you want to have a little a couple of days to be sure that at some point, the weather will be nice enough for you to contemplate the Fitz Roy.
really worth the hike, the view is amazing! the last bit is a bit tough but anyone in a decent shape can do it. and it's so worth it
