You can do a self-guided tour of this place. History, nice views, great walking spots. There is a guided tour portion of the caves, but only at certain hours. I recommend calling ahead for specific times if you want to go to the caves. Great visit, lots of history.
Worth to watch the 3D cinema, which shows well the town and castle's original look. The walls are under reconstruction right now (2015 January), but most of the place is open for visit, and most of it is for free.
It's good to get there to see the overall view at the city and surrounding landscape. Other than that don't expect magnificent castle or great historical sites. It's only old walls.
I can only advicing you to have and feel peacefull atmosphere out of city jam there will open top mountain train like a coach at the beginning it starts from the bottom of hill(1km height)climbing to the top mostly 10 km speed and feeling nature and seeing everything, smellling fresh air to reach to the top so when you arrive there will be a little break than you have to turn back by walk riverside tracking half away there are some coffes and restaurant to eat something than contineiıng to walk down it takes about an hour.... enjoy your trip by the way do not expect to see some wild animals because they do not have just have turkish gazel there....
There is not a lot to do in Eger, so a visit to the castle is worth doing. But except for the good views from the castle's walls, there not much there.
We had a great time during the Medieval Festival this past summer. Great views and there was a real air of excitement. It was so much fun.
A stay in hungarian baroque town Eger (NE of country) is unthinkable without leaving visit the legendary castle, which towers above the city. Fortifications that withstood the Turkish superiority offers a panoramic view of the picturesque town (novel - by G. Gárdonyi and film: Eger stars). Later it was conquered by the Turks while, which witnessed the northernmost minaret in Hungary. The remains of the castle cathedral, casemates, fortifications and waxworks are grateful aim for travelers. Moreover the secondd lagest cathedral in Hungary, bishop´s palace, famous swimming pool and even familiar red wine - bikavér make this place one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Hungary.
this place is simply amazing. walking there through the old town up to the castle and seeing the amazing view is worth the effort. didnt have a chance to take a tour or go in to the 3D movie but I'm assuming it's good as well.
The castle complex is quite large. The signs and information in English were limited, but where there was information, it was very interesting. Views over the town are spectacular.
I love to visit castles on top of hills. This one is very easy to walk up the hill to (no steps just a gentle slope. While many of the attractions were closed, it was fun to walk around the parapets and view the delightful town of Eger below.
