The entrance to the theatre of Pergamon is from the upper Acropolis, this way you will find yourself on the upper rows of the Theatre. You can climb all the way down to the scene - it is if you do not suffer of vertigo, because the height is remarkable and there are no railings. But the views are astonishing and well worth the effort.

The theater on the side of Pergamum's acropolis is the steepest raked Hellenistic theater in the world. The cavea of the theater could seat 10,000 people, in 80 rows of seats, divided into three sections by two diazomas. The stone used in its construction is andesite. Because it was originally a Hellenistic theater, there was no permanent stage, and people sitting on the cavea could see outside and beyond the playing area to the valley and the famous Asclepion on the plain below (a good view if the play got boring!). The theater was used well into the Roman period.Once you take the Cable Car (20TL) up to the Pergamum acropolis, you can reach the theatre easily and there is no additional fee to enter and look around. Just don't look down! It's very steep ... and acrophobia (fear of heights) can make you feel dizzy when you look down (vertigo).

The setting for many of the theaters in Turkish ruins is spectacular. Pergamon's is especially so - facing SW overlooking the city and the sea way beyond. It is steep and in general ruin, so be careful. But, oncve in, have a seat and imagine your self there for a "show" in the first or second centuries. I will remember always the ambiance, color and vibes of this place, late in the afternoon - sun setting in the distance - and totally alone in this incredible place,

Wow! Have never seen anything like it! I'm well informed by my son that when you sit at the top and people sing on the 'stage' below the acoustics are amazing and you can hear everything quite clearly. If you're not going to walk up it, make sure you go down the tunnel to sit at the top of the theatre!

This theatre faces the cliff of the hill, and its very good view from here. This locates on the way of pergamon ruins, and near to pergman underground rooms. One of the best place to visit and photoshoot

It is a long walk to the top with very narrow steps and nothing to hold on to, but it is so worth the effort. My theory is don't look down while standing, but if I sit down and take in the views I am just fine. The views are amazing and the story is very interesting. Go Nd be careful.

It would be great to be there when there is a concert etc. Beautifull views . A guide is a must.Be carefull as the steps are quite steep

Care should be taken when exploring the Theater as the gradient look deceptively gradual from afar. The best view from afar is at the edge of the Acropolis and while you can see that the depth is awesome, the gradient of the theatre seatings does not look so steep.The entrance of the theatre is from the Acropolis through a narrow doorway. Emerging from this stony boulder, you are suddenly standing at the very top of the theater and looking straight down all the way to the bottom where the stage was supposed to be. Suddenly, you will appreciate the precipitous steepness. But that is the single trump card of this site - this Hellenistic Theatre features a 10,000 seating which is the steepest of any known theatre in the world! Next, ask someone to descend to the bottom and deliver a speech or sing. You can really appreciate the acoustics of the antiquity while enjoying the magnificent view of the valley where the Sanctuary of Asclepius is located - priceless!
