Nice very informative local area museum. Took over an hour to see all exhibits. Old home very well maintained.
Nice historical perspective on Aiken County and surrounding area including Revolutionary & Civil Wars, textile industry, Winter Colony residents and community development and culture. Educational for residents and out-of-towners. Nice little gift shop.
My favorite part of the Aiken County Historical Museum is the basement. When the town of Ellenton was leveled to make way for the SRS plant, news articles, pictures, life stories, and even physical parts of the town itself were preserved and are now in the Museum basement. We particularly like the drug store, complete with soda fountain and merchandise of the time. Such an interesting part of history! The rest of the museum is interesting as well, so plan on at least a couple hours to see everything.
Wonderful and eclectic collection, beautifully housed, and such a kind and helpful staff. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to explore.
This is a small historic museum set in Aiken SC , the city is well worth a visit with some great eating places and a good Micro Brewery downtown.I visited the Museum a couple of times with visiting relatives , the staff are knowledgeable and very accommodating , the first visit was close to closing but we were not rushed and got a personal tour of the exhibits , the local history of Aiken is well presented as is the history of the Savannah River nuclear site are the relocating of Ellerton during the sites construction. The Museum is itself a great building and you can easily while away a few hours , all in all a great free attraction.
Learn a lot about Aiken and it's history frequenting this museum. Building itself is charming. Well worth a visit.
I've taken my kids here since they were three and five years old.....they're now 23 and 25....and I can't count the number of times we've visited...... Informative, easy to navigate....and a lot of local history here. Wonderful docents, and lots of history.
I really enjoyed my time. I would prefer that they had an elevator for people like me who have a bad knee.
Interesting historical displays in the unique setting of Banksia, a Winter Colony estate. It's worth it just to see the house, although the exhibits are worth seeing as well. Nice gift shop.
This place is huge! Tons of Civil war history (even had a volunteer on staff that was a civil war expert). Very interesting place, and we really enjoyed it and was glad we stopped by. It is free of charge, but you can leave a donation as we did when we exited.
