Great meat market with all sorts of different smoked meats and a variety of beautiful steaks. So much to choose from and the thick apple smoked bacon has yet to be tried!
We stopped here to pick up some meat and cheese for a picnic lunch. They have a full-service meat counter where they will slice off as much as you need - we got just enough for our one meal (roast beef and provolone) and both were delicious. We sampled their summer sausage as well and it was very tasty. There are some shady picnic tables outside where you can eat, which we took advantage of.
They have a nice meat counter and two room full of interesting items for sale. If you want kitchen tools, make this your stop.
I remember coming here years ago when I was little. We always had to try the samples of the summer sausage and buy the local cheese. Nothing has changed. It is a great place to get Amana meet. It is pricey but I don't get here often so I splurge a little. They do have online sales with a lot of baskets to buy or you can buy things individually. I will be back when I need another Amana wine trip!
We enjoyed our visit to the Meat Shop and found a wide variety of locally-sourced meats and products to purchase.
Wonderful meats, great trinkets & some great metal wall art. This is a must see if you are in the Amana Colonies.
I was able to pick up all I needed for a picnic at a reasonable price. They had salads, bread and beverages. The meat was much better that packaged "lunch meats."
We visit the Amana Colonies several times a year. We NEVER miss a stop at the Amana Meat Shop! The staff is friendly and funny... if you have time and want a story you can usually get one. Couple of our favorites: Maple Sausages or their Bacon - GREAT with breakfast, You also can't be beat thier smoked sausages! For holidays you can't beat their hams. You can also find kitchen gadgets, jams, jellies, cheeses & snacks.Oktoberfest.. bring a cooler, stock up, stop at the Bakery for some breads, then head to Milstream!
First of all, I have not been to this store. But I have purchased from them....and received such great customer service that I WISH I could visit! I made an order online, and when some of the items were out of stock, a wonderful lady named Marcia called me to see if there was anything they could substitute for the items that were not in stock. I decided to wait until they were in order, which happened to be February,2015 (my original order was in December, 2014). As soon as the items were in stock, a nice lady left a message saying that my order was on it's way and that I should receive it very soon. I was so impressed!!! This is the kind of customer service that makes people want to do business with a company. I will be a repeat customer. If you are in the area, check it out in person.
We bought steaks for supper, a jar of pickled ham, country ham, sliced corned beef (delicious with the Amana Sauerkraut for reubens), fresh brats, Amana bakery breads, and lots of smoked brat selections and bacon to take back to family. (We're past t-shirts.) Everything has been delicious. Some local football fans told us that at a national bowl game, Amana meats were "exported" for the Iowa crowd. The second room has samples, more German and unique items, lots of canned items, German mustard, summer sausages, and a third room has kitchen items. There are whole hams, lunch meat that I think was head cheese, and many cheeses. The counter staff was informative and helpful as we made our selections.
