Whether on a guided tour or a self-guided walk, Albany's New York State Capitol building is a great place to spend some time. Newly renovated, more of the building is open to the public than has been for a long time. In addition to the beautiful and monumental scale of the architecture, there are also beautiful examples of stained glass windows, halls lined with historic artwork, murals, and more. I suggest you bring a camera or you will wish you had. Rub shoulders with the lawmakers who work here and visit this historic gem.
The top attraction in Albany, NY in terms of being the seat of the legislative branch of the government. Building is a beautiful one with the finest architecture of any State Capitol in the US! Weekdays tours at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. are 1 hour and recommended, rather than exploring the building on your own!
The Capital building recently underwent a multi-million dollar restoration and clean up. It is well worth taking the guided tour...the stained glass windows, the marble and the legislative rooms are just beautiful. Plus the guide gives you much interesting history of the building and New York State.
I went not really wanting to but others did. I now must say I am glad I did and recommend the tour. I look forward to seeing other state capitals now.
I had friends visiting who wanted to see the state capital. I had been there on field trips years ago with my children but had missed you much of the beauty and history that was exposed on this visit. We were taken on a free tour which was given by a history teacher who had retired and was doing this to keep busy. He was extremely knowledgeable. We got to see the legislature in session. In Albany New York it is well worth the hour and a half to come visit.
It's totally worth it go for a walk at downtown Albany and stop by the New York State Capitol! You can have a free guide tour and get to know the stories behind those walls!
The New York capital building is worth visiting if you are in Albany. The building is interesting because it is unusual--one of only 7 or 8 capital buildings in the United States that does not have a dome. The inside is beautiful and easy to navigate. You can take a guided tour or walk around on your own. We chose the latter option because of limited time. You can see the House and Senate Chambers, as well as a few exhibits. There is also a flag room, which houses and displays flags from NY regiments since the Revolutionary War, and a Hall of Governors, which displays paintings of all NY governors. If you walk around on your own, set aside an hour to an hour and a half for your visit, depending on your level of interest in the displays.
Worth a quick stop while you're in Albany. Decent architecture. Nice place for photos. Not much else around this building to visit, but if yiou are in the area anyway makes sense to check it out.
The structure is very beautiful and although I saw it at night it was still worthwhile. If you have time stop and take a moment to look around and appreciate it for what it is.
Building is massive. The workmanship on the building is amazing. Very nice location for taking pictures.
