People come to Augusta, Hermann and the other wineries in Missouri with different goals. Some come for the view and scenery, some come to see what a winery from days gone by looked like and some come for the wine while others are looking for a fun location with a little of all the above. What you will get at Augusta Winery is good, friendly and personalized service with above average wine, perhaps some of the best in the area. It's wine is now sold in such Cosmo cities as New York. While its perhaps not the greatest view or most impressive facility, I find its wine is consistently some of the best in the area. Combine that with wonderful service, and no matter how you cut the deck, you have a winning hand.
Thanks very much for posting a review, the tagline is too clever! We're so glad you enjoyed your visit and our wines! We look forward to future visits!- Jessica
We rode the Katy Trail and stopped at this winery on a corner in town, up the hill a ways from the bike trail. The staff who did the pourings were very nice and knowledgeable, helping us pick two bottles (one for there, one for home on our bike). The wine we purchased for there was from a reserve collection -- very tasty (but cost extra just to taste). They also serve various cheeses and assorted crackers, so we had an impromptu picnic on their shaded patio that overlooks one of the main streets in town. They set us up with plates and napkins, and it was a great location to people watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon.Overall impressions -- The tasting room on the corner isn't very large, but it wasn't a problem because it wasn't very busy. The staff seem like they really are glad you are there, and are very good about explaining the various wines as well as helping you make a selection. They don't rush you like some of the larger wineries. There is a nice array of gifts available in the tasting room.Unlike some of the larger wineries, we saw they allowed outside food on their patio. We'd come here again -- good wines, pleasant staff, great people-watching location.
Stopped her to do some tasting and ended up buying a couple of bottles. There were also some cute gift items for sale.
We were in Augusta during the annual Candlelight walk and the winery was open late for tasting. They didn't really want to let you taste all the different selections of wine; however, what we did sample was very good. We even bought a bottle of the Blackberry. They also had a hot apple pie wine and it was very good. They have a nice beer and wine garden where they had firepits going. All in all, it was a great experience.
Winery was all centrally located, just don't go in the heat of the summer. whew...too hot, even if you have the breeze or a shade. It's more enjoyable in the spring or fall - especially when the trees are turning colors
We live about 45 minutes from Augusta and visit at least once a month. We try not to stop into the Augusta Winery tasting room on every visit because we usully walk out with a mixed case of wine. Yes, their wine are that good! My wife is a big fan of their dry Vignoles. I go for the Chamborcin and Norton. Great staff!
Thanks for the review! We're glad you enjoyed your visit! We will be offering the Happy Hour on Fridays through the Summer and possibly into September and October. Hope to see you again soon!Cheers!
This was our second stop and we had a great experience. Same wine that's sold up the hill for $66 was less than $20 here. Our hostess was great and very knowledgeable. They also have a huge outdoor sitting area up the hill with live music but it was very crowded and we still had other wineries to assault.
Made a recent stop here over a lovely weekend. Crowds were low, but it was still fairly early. Wine tasting was free and pretty much everything we tasted we enjoyed; especially their seasonal hot apple pie. Would definitely stop back by here again.
