The arboretum has walking trails that are open year-round. The trails are wide with a gentle grade, easy for small children or adults with limited stamina. Cross country ski rental is available for a small fee. An indoor farmer's market runs on Fridays. One of my favorite places to wander when I have a couple hours free.
Hosta gardens, fantastic trees and wonderful landscapes are the draw here. Farmers' market on Friday year round and a dedicated volunteer group and staff reflect the interest many have for this underutilized gem in the heart of the city.
I visited the arboretum with friends on a beautiful September morning. We were lucky enough to visit on a day when a group of sculptors were creating in the field. Several of them were nice enough to stop their work and answer our questions. After visiting with the sculptors, we hiked the outer trail of the park. The women in the visitors center was very nice and extremely informative. Stop and get a map and be sure to take water on you hike. This is a beautiful place and well worth your time.
I came in the winter for dog sled rides. What fun! And a beautiful area. I could just imagine what it might look like in spring, summer and fall. Ideal for hiking, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Lots of sculptures dispersed throughout, also.
I have visited the arboretum many times> They have a lot of sign up for programs, like wild mushrooms, local birds etc. One of the things I like is the Friday Farmers market. good local food (meats, breads, vegetables and fruits) and reasonable prices. They have this market for the summer and most of the fall.
Easy walk around trees, plants, water, bridge and sculptures. Quite a variety of settings in the park. A little buggy once you get into the woods. Info station was not open on Sunday. Great place to take kids.
Welcome center not open when I was there but thew grounds are very pleasant . Do not forget to look for hidden fairy houses
Nice place for nature lovers, a nice picnic area too. I think this arboretum is always a lovely even in winter, spring and summer.
My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to snowshoe around Augusta. This is a great place, there are many trails or you can build your own!!!We started in an open field and went through a beautiful forest. It was really nice. I am looking forward to come here, especially in the summer.
