Lovely setting and well worth a visit. We were on bikes and enjoyed riding into the area. It was quite cool the day we visited so we would like to go back when the weather is better and stay longer.
Don't miss the Fairchild Oak tree. It is indeed a sight to behold! If you have the time (and right shoes + bug spray) hike the trail for awhile and enjoy the feeling of old tropical Florida!
Very easy to fall back in time when you visit this place. Nice and cool and shadey on a hot day. Never see anyone else when we are there either.
We hiked the road trail and then visited the ruins of the old sugar plantation. There is a creek for kayaking and there are many large oak trees along the circular pathway. There are mosquitoes so bring bug spray as well as water. The hiking trail is designed to allow shorter or longer hikes. The sugar ruins offer lots of photo opportunities. Hint: combine this visit with the garden park as well as the coastal park at Flager Beach.
The Fairchild oak featured in the park is majestic and huge. We took the hike through the park and loved the information signs along the hike. There is no cost to visit this park and it is worth stopping here
This natural beauty and the history of the tree, the families that owned the property and the park in which it stands is a must see!
Yes indeed, the two thousands and some year old oak tree is impressive. We felt like little ants next to it. I wish it could tell us old time stories...But then we wanted to hike on the main trail we had to turn around after less than a mile - it was all muddy and wet! So disappointing. I wish they charged something to go in so that they could actually keep those trail 'alive'. A few planks of wood would make a big difference.(we went there after more than a week of no rain, so image what happens when it does rain!)
Nice place to visit. The Sugar Ruins Plantation is very interesting. We really enjoyed touring these ruins.
You must stop here while on your scenic ride thru "the loop" to see the 2000+ year gigantic live oak tree . Its an incredible site to see.
Very clean and well preserved area. History buffs would enjoy this. Cost to enter park was very reasonable for residents and the same for non residents or Florida. We visited several Florida state parks and enjoyed them all.
