Imagine visiting an unspoiled natural beach just a few miles from Ocean City and Rehobeth beach. If your timing is good you can watch rockets blasting off (or exploding). There is also a round up of wild horses once a year. The round up draws a huge number of tourists.
Visited in the winter. Very quiet relaxing. The horses were not active at that time of year only saw a few. Very natural setting will go back again. Wish we could have seen more of the horses.
Wander the beaches and dunes uncluttered by all the commercial trappings of Ocean City to the north, the beach is under NPS guidance.
We visited on a nice fall day. The drive down from OC is easy and totally worth it. There is a $3 per car fee to get into the beach area. There are bathrooms and a store (which was not open) that were clean. You can walk out to the beach and even on a 70 degree day there were people out walking, sunning and swimming. There may be a per person fee to use the beach, I did not check because we just looked and left that part. There is a $15 fee (good for 7 days) to get into the other part of the park. On past visits we have not gone into that part of the park. On this trip we did and it was totally worth it. The ranger at the gate said to make sure and take all the side roads because the ponies are all over the island. We drove down to the bay side and there is a cute beach where the kids got out to run around and play. The water was cold but they got all the way in. You can rent paddle boards, kayaks, bikes and the like there as well. We drove all over the area and were able to see lots of ponies. They have no problem crossing the streets, walking up to your car and sticking their heads in the window for food. Everyone in our group enjoyed the visit and we would not hesitate to visit again.
Chincoteague's Horseshoe Drop at midnight New Year's Eve followed by the Pony Polar Plunge at 1 p.m. the next day make unique ways to see in the new year! Our 9-and-15-year-olds loved it all. We started with a good seafood dinner at AJ's by the Creek on Chincoteague (AJ's last day of the season is always New Year's Eve -- open again in mid-March).
The National Park and Wildlife Refuge on Assateague Island is a great place for immersing oneself in nature. We enjoy driving, walking, and biking along the many paths in the woods, along the marshes and along the shoreline. There's a lighthouse to climb, interesting educational displays at the Visitor's Center to see, and diverse wildlife to view -especially the famous wild ponies! It's difficult for us to leave this unique place. One day is never quite enough!
我经常来这个海滩。这里漂亮干净,在这个国家海岸上有护卫区和非护卫区。还有冲浪区,钓鱼区。还可以带上你们的宠物狗哦!
We love the un-crowded Hikers/Bikers Beach - eagles and osprey fishing within eyesight of us! We even saw a pair of adult osprey teaching their young to fish!
