I had not been here in a few years. We went last year on the way to the outer banks. What a great place! My kids had an absolute blast and they are 4 and 6. Great amount of rides for my kids. My only complaint would be the cost of food and drink, but it is the same everywhere.
I have been a season pass holder for Kings Dominion for several years. I really like this park a lot. They really worked hard to celebrate the parks 40th anniversary this year. bringing back some things from the past like the big apples in Candy Apple Grove, the clock made from flowers and shrubs. I love the large variety of rides as well. I have many favorites such as the Volcano, Drop Tower,Back Lot Stunt Coaster, and Dominator. Other popular rides are Flight of Fear,an indoor launch coaster and The Intimidator with its huge almost 90degree drop straight down. No visit would be complete without a trip to the top of the Eifel Tower where you can get a birds eye view of the entire park. I have not attended the Haunt yet this year but I have really enjoyed previuous years Haunts and look forward to seeing what is new.
I purchased a season ticket online, and so benefited from free parking. I also bought the wristband for no-waiting which was good value, except on the day I went, which was at the end of the summer season queues weren't that bad so for me it was a waste - but when busy this thing will be a boon. BUY YOUR FOOD ONLINE WITH THE SPECIAL OFFER - it is way expensive in the park and even as a single person you will save. I enjoyed the rides - there are enough thrillers to keep you occupied all day. I also visited during the halloween season and at dusk the park changes into something entirely scarier - great fun and not to be missed. Overall i loved Kings Dominion - oh go up the tower during the day, the view is breathtaking.
I'm a roller coaster fan and Kings Dominion has plenty. Food prices are a bit too high, but having a season pass gives you a discount on food and other purchases. I don't play very many games either because they are a bit pricy for my taste.
If .given the choice of here or Busch Gardens, go another hour and go to Williamsburg. Kings Dominion is an amusement park pure and simple. Nothing more, nothing less. Clean and well organized. Rides are fun. Nothing that exciting Not a bad place to spend the day. Just don't expect too much.
Went here last summer. Great park with a variety of rides but what kept me from giving this 5 stars was that the Intimidator was shut down which was one of the main reasons we went to the park. They should have had it on their website since it's their signature ride. This was our second time there, and nothing really was different. The Volcano coaster is the best and the only coaster like that in the country. You blast off in the beginning then go back in volcano and shoot out the top. Disorienting but fun. Most of the other coasters are a little old and need to be torn down. Shockwave is definitely archaic and seems like its from the 80s. Food options were plentiful. The dinosaur exhibit was a little boring as well. Park wasn't crowded which was a plus. We got to do everything in one day easily.
This is an old, not too clean, amusement park that has seen its better days. They keep adding new roller coaster rides but the majority of the park is run down and in need of sprucing up. They are not set up to deal with extreme heat while waiting in lines. The food is mediocre at best and expensive for a family to spend the day and heat even somewhat healthily. Skip this one and save your money for Disney.
We were season pass holders, and very much enjoyed this theme park. It was approx a 1 hour drive (if no traffic) from northern Virginia, and a better choice if unwilling to drive to Williamsburg. The park is fairly large, with lots to do for all age ranges. The newer kids section is great for younger kids, but my 6 year old was a bit bored with most of the mild rides there. The park is fairly well maintained. Love the entrance/fountain/tower. In the summer, the water park is great, and considering that it is park of the regular admission, makes it even better. Lots of good water rides also. If you are a thrill rider, don't miss out on the Dominator or the Intimidator. We also went during Halloween Haunt, which was great for adults!!! Lots of characters walking around and lots of different haunt attractions. Food of course is pricey. Our go-to spots were Chick-Fil-A, Boardwalk fries and Italian ice, all fairly close to the entrance. If you choose to pack lunch, there are covered picnic tables in the parking lot to eat. If planning to visit, hope you have a great time!
Living in Virginia this has been an attraction to go to every summer. It's just like any amusement park. However, I prefer going to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.
The rides are awesome! You can compare it to Six Flags. This is a great place to visit with families and/or friends.for you are almost guaranteed to have absolute fun. However, you might end up spending more money on food than what you paid for admission. I would recommend going to Chick fil A to get a good deal. I don't know the regular item prices for it because I'm from NY, but the prices weren't as high as every other restaurant in the amusement park. I hope you have a great time! It is worth going!
