I've done a dozen or so Quetico trips that were outfitted by Canoe Canada. Some of the guys I paddle with have been going with Canoe Canada since the mid-1970s and have done 30+ trips. They offer good quality gear that is well maintained. They know the park including the portages, water conditions, fishing locations & conditions, and the campsites. They have "standard" outfitting packages, but will customize things for you if you ask. For example, we've had them send tortillas instead of bread, or go to the local grocery to pick-up a few extras. We've had friendly service that goes beyond extraordinary. Our gear is packed and ready to go when we arrive. Usually even paddles & life-jackets are set out (although you can select your own from a gear storage room if you like). One year we managed to leave with only one map (we usually take one for each canoe in our group). One of the Canoe Canada guys paddled into Quetico park several hours and brought us the map. Another year there was a snafu in packing our gear and we discovered we were short on cooking oil. In this case we happened to have a satellite phone and called Canoe Canada - it was the first evening of our trip and we weren't too far into the park - figured we could paddle back to our entry point the next day and pick up more oil if they'd bring it out. Instead, Canoe Canada guys paddled out to where we were camped that night (we're talking probably an 6 or 8 hour round-trip, ) and brought us more cooking oil.Canoe Canada also operates a number of fly-in Cabins on remote lakes. I've never done this - when I get too old to paddle this is "plan B". If you want to do a trip in Quetico, Canoe Canada will do a fantastic job of outfitting you. A few Quetico Photos are included with this review.
Guaranteed, Jim will set you up with exactly the equipment you'll need and give you excellent suggestions on routes, portages, camp sites and fish locations. He couldn't have been more helpful. We will definitely book with him next year. Fantastic outfitter!
We did a fly in fishing trip. Canoe Canada outfitters is a great outfitters to use. They have several options for fly in and other style of trips. Even if you are not a serious fisherman this is a fun trip. If you like the outdoors, you will like this.
These people are knowledgeable and enjoy their business and want you to have a great experience in Quetico. The equipment is good, they load you up with more food than you'll really need (if you choose this as part of your outfitting), and they will patiently address any questions regarding lakes, campsites, fishing spots, etc.. Did not get a chance to use their bunkhouse. Shuttle service available before/after Quetico canoe trips. Post-canoe trip shower facilities are decent/clean, though the hot water runs out if there are a lot of users before you. Good experience with Canoe Canada, would use them again.
CCO did an amazing job. The staff was wonderful. The gear was in great shape. The voyage was spectacular.
Have done 3 trips now through Canoe Canada, 2 group 1 solo. If you are new to Quetico, I can not say enough about it. It is everything that I could have wanted in a canoe/fishing/camping trip. I travel 1130 miles to experience Quetico, and will never plan a trip unless it involves Canoe Canada. Jim and company take great care of you. They will have a customer in me as long as i'm physically able to make use of the park.
Jim helped us plan our trip from our route to the fishing holes. He was able to answer every question we had, and his knowledge was spot on. The rest of the staff was awesome as well. The hospitality that we received while staying at the bunk house was beyond anything we could have expected. We will definitely be using canoe canada again.
Years ago, my brother and I had 6 days of canoeing in Algonquin, this time we looked for something a bit more "wild"...We choosed Canoe Canada Outfitting, and were so lucky to have Jim to take care of us - what a trip.Right from the beginning we felt that we were at the right place, Jim REALLY knows Quetico!!We were amassed with how well the advice he gave us fitted, like he was talking about his own backyard :-)The trip Jim had planned for us was just at our level, with one or two chances on the way to make other routes - very nice.We choosed an elite package, and all was perfect, good and enough food ( except for the coffee, Europeans sure drink more coffee than Canadians Jim !! ) the gear was clean and in good condition.Due to advice from Jim we made our trip going from west to east, and were really happy that we had the wind from behind most of the time.We were picked up exactly at the arranged time and place, and did enjoy the cold beer Jim brought us, due to the rain and wind outside. So are you going to Quetico and don't feel up to make all the arrangements, contact Canoe Canada outfitters - you will be in the best hands. Thanks Jim - from Jakob and Lars, UAE / Denmark
For several years now we have been using the outpost cabins through Canoe Canada. These folks are the best and each trip has been a memorable experience. I have been fishing Quetico Park since the mid 60's and have used three different outfitters....in early years flying North out of Ely, but I preferred the quality of fishing and camping on the north side of Quetico so started using Canadian outfitters. Since I am now older I prefer the outpost cabins so there is more opportunity for fishing and it is less strenuous. I have used Canoe Canada for 15 years now on several trips. They seem like family and their service is the best.....we are looking forward to our next trip in mid-July to Bow Lake.
