This is a really good place to stop and visit. They have a museum and a gift shop, atm and a lot of helpful information
We loved all the small exhibits and the theater on the second floor with a wonderful video of the area after Katrina, which chronicled the clean up efforts.
Building is amazing, staff not so friendly, one gentleman reached directly in front of me to grab broucher, but never accknowledged my presence. Souvenir shop cashier was just reading a book, didn't help any one, didn't even greet anyone.
Stop here if you go to Biloxi-- lots of information on the general area. Coupons, brochures, gift shop. Walk to light house-- they do charge admission to go up in light house. Walk across street to pier. Beach is nice here.
Some very friendly volunteers helped make this worthwhile. The film upstairs was short, but worthwhile.it was a good design to make a new building fit in, looking like a plantation house. I liked the model sailboat, built by a local artist, just as an example. Do it...it's free!
The gentleman who greeted us was very nice and gave great information. Toured the area. Loved the old building. Just stood there for a moment and Looked at the beach
Free...very informative about the are. The Docent's are very knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. Small gift shop with some nice articles from local artisans. BUT!!! beware. They don't take plastic. I don't carry much cash, anymore and rarely have a check with me. Luckily, I had a dog-warred old check hiding in my purse.
I would have never guessed that I would review a Visitor's Center, but for visitors to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, this is a MUST-DO-stop! It not only is located in a beautiful building - worth seeing in itself, but its beautiful balcony has an unprecedented view of the Gulf coast and the Biloxi lighthouse! (registered in Ripley's Believe It - or Not! because it stands in the middle of a 4 lane highway!). There are lovely people that work the desk that are friendly and know their area well... (They seem determined that others will love their area as much as they do.... ). A fabulous museum at the rear of the center is interactive and provides a great audio and visual history of the area... Incredible art is found throughout the Center and for sale within a small, charming gift shop.... And certainly all visitors should see the film of the impact of Hurricane Katrina (2005). It is shown twice a day in the theater upstairs - for free. As I said, this should be the beginning of your visit, but we have returned a couple of times, ourselves!
Perfectly convenient, with the beach across the street and the lighthouse nearby. Make a day of the 3. The visitor center staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The museum is filled with interesting facts and is self paced. I love the little handheld speaker you carry around to give you a personal tour. You enter only the display you want to hear about, neat! I had not seen this before. We took lots of pics in the visitor center too, it's lovely. Many of the bus and trolley tours meet across the street so this place was a focal point for our visit.
If you want to start you visit to Biloxi and get some brochures or ideas on what to see and do, I recommend the Biloxi Visitor Center. The folks are very helpful and location is easy to get to right along highway 90. We enjoyed the movie about Katrina and its impact on Biloxi.
