Great beach to take your dog but it gets crowded, especially over a holiday weekend so I recommend going in the morning. The pay to park is confusing; I ended up paying $10 for the entire day when we only wanted to pay for 2 hours! You still have idiots who just let their dogs run around and run up to anyone and their dogs. Why people think this is OK is beyond me! There are a ton of dogs so if you don't like dogs, drive south a few miles to the beaches that do not allow pets.
I was driving two of my granddaughters to Half Moon Bay, after visiting San Mateo County Memorial Park. We saw the sign for Pomponio State Beach and decided to stop for a while. My two granddaughters spent over an hour alternately wading in and fleeing from the surf while I strolled along the beach admiring the view. We watched surfers off-shore and some egrets beside a large tidal pool. Our visit was a relaxing break from the drive and worth the admission fee.
Never very crowded. You can walk up to San Gregorio beach, about two miles away. Just you and the birds and a very few other scattered human beings.
This beach is very nice and easy to get to. It is about 15 miles south of 92 and 1 in Half Moon Bay. Parking is $8 and bring exact change. There are bathrooms in the parking lot, but I was told to avoid them.
All down the coast it is one state beach after another eaxch with surfers and with amazing views and in some cases amazing cliffs. Definitely a relaxing drive.
This is an awesome beach in Halfmoon bay!!! One of my favorites!!! Beautiful views, miles of beautiful sandy beach. This beach also has a few caves, cool exploring!
good spot to stop for sure if you like nature its not southern California but a great scenic spot to visit plan a few hours and take photos
Pomponio State Beach in Half Moon Bay is a very pretty place to sit and watch the ocean. its also a good place to watch the birds. There is a small lagoon. We have a state park pass (yearly) so for us we use that to pay our small parking fee.
This beach is the perfect place to take a walk and explore. It wasn't very crowded and there was good access to the shore. It's definitely worth a stop!
It is such a beautiful scenic beach. Just pull over and enjoy on your way to Duartes restaurant in Pescadero for famous soup!
