The terrorism memorial is less impressive in photographs and from a distance than it is close-up. You can't appreciate it without the context of New York Harbor and the Manhattan skyline. Plus, the drive out to it let's you see how massive the Bayonne Navy Yard was when in operation.
If you can find this monument, it is worth the struggle to get there. Sadly, it isn't well sign-posted so even the Bayonne resident who was driving (and thought she knew where it was) made a wrong turn or two getting to it. The memorial, once you get there, is quite impressive. The tear-drop center once had dripping water we were told, but somehow it was a problem so they turned it off. You also have a spectacular the view across the water to the new WTC and the NYC skyline, so be sure to go on a nice, clear day.
I have gone to this beautiful and breathtaking monument dedicated to some of the lost victims of the terror attacks many times. I have taken family and friends visiting me there as as well and they were equally impressed.I strongly suggest that anyone visiting Bayonne or anywhere near by to take the time to experience this truly amazing hidden park and monument.
I have visited this place many times. I bring all my friends when I head to NY and NJ. This is worth the visit, and the drive to go see it. It is never busy, and it is a nice quite area. Wonderful place to reflect and to see the harbor. I would highly recommend it. The Bayonne Committee that is lead by Frank Perrucci and Jerry Kelly are amazing! Wonderful people and 2 of the times that I have gone they have been on site! I started a page on FB for this wonderful memorial because I thought it was that amazing. On 9-11 2012 I was welcomed and treated like VIP by them for all the visits that I have made. It is a great view during 9-11 to see the Tribute Lights as well. THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR HARD WORK! YOU CAN SEE THE STATUE OF LIBERTY THE BRIDGES, NYC, AND SO MUCH MORE.
Beautiful touching memorial, situated in industrial waterfront complex. Difficult to get to without signage
I come here often. It is peaceful and serene. The way a memorial should be. Often at memorials there are to many tourists taking pics and smiling. This place is just peaceful and beautiful. Thank you Russia!
Come and see it all. great views of the New York skyline. September 11 tribute. I live in Bayonne, so I rate it average but most are touched when they come here.
Amazingly beautiful and thought provoking piece of architecture. A nice view of NY skyline especially downtown. A must see in Bayonne. And it's free!!
beautiful view on a sunny day; can be depressing though. Lovely sentiment and stunning reminder of a horrible day. Odd location, You have to want to see it, you won't stumble upon it by accident.
We visited this site before taking a cruise that departed from the Cape Liberty, Bayonne cruise ship terminal. The memorial is directly in front of the forward end of the ship (take the right fork at the end of the road instead of the usual left fork which brings you to the luggage drop off tents). With the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan in the distance, it provides a very poignant area to reflect. It's very small and easily visited within a short time, or you can sit on the benches for as long as you'd like. Names and messages are engraved on the walls and stones. Highly recommended!
