This park like setting is a great place for a walk .There are many acres of beautiful nature settings -every months -different flowers ,shrubs and trees are in bloom.Nice place for a picnic lunch.Great picture opportunities, bring your camera...
Love going there. Especially in Spring. Beautiful flowers, birds, trees and ver peaceful.I lived many years in the UK where, in my mind, the most beautiful garden are.Frelinghuysen Arboretum reminds me of English Gardens.
The arboretum has been a long time favorite destination for my family. The flowers and trails are great to enjoy and the summertime concerts are nice. But if you are in the area, you must come the first two weeks of December to experience the gingerbread display. It is truly amazing to see the gingerbread creations and a fun way for young and old alike to enjoy a bit of the season.A tip if you decide to come, go as close to the opening as possible. It does get crowded and you could have quite a wait to get in. It is worth the wait. they charge only a modest fee (this year it was 2.00 per person) to get in and you more than get your money's worth.
When I first had occasion to come here, I kept comparing it to the arboretum in my last neighborhood in the Midwest. Frelinghuysen will never compare favorably to it but that really isn't a fair comparison. I have come to realize, what they do, they do well. Recently went to a lecture on wildflowers and attended a Sunday appetizers preparation event. Have also been on one of the bus tours to a series of NY gardens and to the Philly Flower show. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The events are well run, whether local or by bus. Plant sales are good. All in all, I recommend membership and taking advantage of the arb offerings.
I've been to Frelinghusyen with friends, my sister, and alone. It is beautiful anytime of year. Two weekends ago the leaves were at autumnal peak and there were many families out taking portrait photographs of children.I love the rose garden and the labyrinth most. The trails are not very secluded, but if you need a quick nature fix they will do.
We just had a short period of time before meeting friends for dinner in Morristown. I am so happy we stopped. Expect a peaceful place with rolling hills and floral visual delights. The day came with dark cloudy skies with a hint of sunlight that lit up the blossoming trees. It was gorgeous view.
This arboretum in the heart of Morris County is truly a gift to the area. Bring a picnic and dine under the gigantic tree surrounded by decking. It is a place you will return to again and again.
This is a lovely place to spend an afternoon walking the grounds and enjoying the gardens. The retreat like atmosphere is sure to please adults and children, who can roam and run. There is a small café which serves light lunch, muffins and pastries, etc. but you can bring your own and enjoy a picnic in a sunny or shady spot. When we there there recently participating in making a moss earn from chicken wire, there was also a juried show of African violets. If you wish to participate in an activity, go to the main desk inside the building opposite the parking area and register there. There's always something going on and if there is not, just enjoy the grounds!
Decided to spend the day in morristown the other day...and this place stole the show. Extraordinary PC of land in morristown and high praise for the well kept grounds. The garden in front of Matilda's cafe is worth the trip...which cost nothing bug a donation which you will proudly give for this slice of beauty. Wish I could grow flowers in my garden like this
I visit the arboretum once or twice a month on a weekend day when the weather is warm and sunny. The place seems little used on weekdays. First Sunday of a month there is a guided free tour. I also go to fun and interesting events as posted, many free. Many of the events are for children where they can learn and do unusual and seasonal things. The cafe is now open with homemade very tasty sandwiches, cookies and pasties, and more - you can get a bag full and go have a picnic on the large mansion great lawn or sit on a bench in the park or sit at a cafe table.
