We had a great time and decided we will make it a yearly event. I took my son and four grandkids. There were plenty of places for me to sit (sun or shade). The lines for snacks were short. Plenty of picnic tables around. A giant hot tub made my day and lots of kids smiles. Everyone loved it. I also loved the fact that the park is not too spread out. The walking is limited and you don't have any steep slopes except for the steps to go on a slide.
This was our first time to this park. I found the viewer only price to be really high ($11.95). While all of the pools and slides did appear clean and they had plenty of lifeguards on duty, there were problems. I do not know if it had do with the weather, which was overcast and around 65 degrees F, however the pool and the hot tub were not very warm. My daughter and her friends tried to swim in the pool and said it was way to cold, they then went over to the hot tub and said and it was not much warmer. On a final note, after an hour or so of sliding, two of our group were injured on the twisty black slide. They "fell out of" the innertube and one of them banged her ankle really hard and the other hit her head. I will say the first aid was very good and attentive, however as we were getting ready to leave, the medics were called for another injury on another slide. Maybe this was just a fluke, but 3 injuries in an hour does not make me super excited to come back.
We spent an entire day here, and would highly recommend it as a fun family mini-vacation. They allow you to take your own food (not in a cooler) but offer food for purchase as well. The waterslides are supervised by certified attendants. I felt safe letting my two grandchildren aged 12 and 10 "have the run of the place."
This was my first trip there and I wasn't too impressed. I was honestly expecting more options on the amount of waterslides that were open. They had the biggest one closed (the one that the Grandson wanted to try) so he had to 'settle' for the remaining 5 slides open. The food was cold (Chicken and Corn Dog Meals) and the kitchen had just opened when I placed my order...yuck! The price for both entry and food was too high. It took a long time to get into the park since they only had one employee at the ticket office for all purchases at opening hour. That was not such a good idea on a very HOT day! I don't think it's fair to only get $8 back if you're a 'viewer only' and not using the waterslides or hot tub. So $12 to watch someone else...yikes! I guess those that can't participate should NOT go and send the kids with someone else.
We make the Birchbay water slides about once a year. It is often a birthday destination for my daughters birthday August first. The weather at Birch Bay can be hit or miss. The good news on a cooler day there are less people and you can really hit the slides. If you get cold you can warm up in the hot tubs. All the slides are a good time. The black drop is the higest part of the tower off to the side. It is not for the faint of heart or children less than 12. If you don't follow instructions and clench your butt cheeks you will get an enema. Also people who flail often loose there tops and get cuts. You drop about 60ft at a 60degree angle and hit the water going fast. The first couple times I go every year I am scared and wonder if I am going to fly out.You can buy Pizzas for lunch right there. We haven't really used the rest of the snackbar that is there because we always order pizza.Slides are a good time. Lots of space to spread out on the lawns. This is a family friendly space.
I don't do crowds...so I can't comment on how the Birch Bay Waterslides are during busy days. We visited a few times this past summer and my daughter was a lifeguard. My teens spend quite a bit of time in the hot tub, but my 8 year old adored the slides and did them over and over and over! It is an easy to navigate park, easy to park, and they do have a "watcher" option for those of us stuck just watching and not participating. Lots of lounge areas, some covered. We've done cold rainy days there too and it was almost more fun as no one was there!
We took our kids on a nice summer day, ages 9, 10 and 12. If you read all the reviews, they are correct. This is not Disneyland but a great local place with few line ups and it's big enough for this age group to have a day of fun! They have your typical fare for food and drinks. If you want to just watch you kids, you get a bit of discount, I think $10, remember to ask, they will give you a different wrist band.
Went to the slides with my daughters school, the whole park was just elementary age children. One of the lifegaurds was putting the kids down backwards (which is not supposed to be allowed) and he was teasing a young boy. My daughter stood up for the child and when she told him he would get in trouble he called her stupid. The manager was notified of the situation yet I never saw him come speak to this worker. This situation made it so that little boy would not go down the slide that worker was running so he could not fully enjoy himself. The other workers were responsible and kind to the children. The consession stand is expensive and poor quality. I got nachos paid 4.00 there was barely any cheese and stale chips. We will probably not be going back anytime soon.
great fun can get crowded at times close to the beach and the us Canada border you can bring a lunch
Fun and the lines if any are short! There is plenty of parking, a pizza place close by and take your own food in too.
