That was a nice treat!!! All buildings are nicely preserved. You literally can go back in time visiting the barber shop or sod house, goods store or railroad depot, saloon, bank or the court house. The collection of the artifacts in every building on the site is quite impressive, especially for the small city as Burlington, CO.
Very well put together. History...great place to visit.
Not being a farmer or raised on a farm I enjoy going to the Old Town Museum. To see the equipment that they used way back when is amazing. Now when you go out and watch them harvest you wonder how they did it back then.
Authentic buildings moved to form a western town- Saloon, jail, blacksmith shop just to name a few. Beautifully restored and stocked. A great walk back in time for all!
This was a great little museum. We went on a Sunday when we were driving through the area. We were the only people there for a while. It was very interesting in the old buildings. Many of them were restored buildings from towns in the area and they had quite a bit of history in a small book in each of the buildings. They had a small room which was almost like a war memorial for World War 1 and 2. Very interesting things all over. The only negative thing I have to say is that they need to clean a little more in the outside buildings because there were tons of dead bugs (mostly flys) everywhere.
Lots of things of the past that will teach you about a simpler time. Well done.
This little city of historical buildings was fascinating. Each had the appropriate furnishings. There were authentic artifacts from the turn-of-the-century. We enjoyed the self guided tour. I particularly liked the display of antique horse and carriage type buggys. The fully furnished Prairie home was fun too. A gem not to be missed.
History has always inspired me and like learning about how we got here. I hope my children can have a field trip to here when they are old enough.
We visited the museum during the "Pedal the Plains" bike tour. There are lots of antiques in this rebuilt "old town." It's a bit tricky to get to/find from the interstate, but worth a visit if you're staying overnight in Burlington. The people are nice, interesting, and helpful. Check with the locals to see if there are any programs upcoming during your stay.
We love going to the Old Town Museum in Burlington, CO!! We arrived during the annual Harvest Festival during the Labor Day Weekend. There were Can-Can Dancers in the saloon, and street vendors selling their wares. A number of Bluegrass bands were performing as well. It was a very good weekend getaway!
