We spent 3 days at Lake Bemidji State Park and were busy all the time doing very fun things! We rode bicycle on the paved Paul Bunyan Trail which going through the park and continued around Lake Bemidji through Bemidji State University back to the park. We paddled our kayak from Lake Bemidji up the Mississippi River and then floated back, stopping to let our dogs play on a very shallow sand bar. We ate lunch in Bemidji, and then did the "Bog Walk" at the north end of the park. This is a tamarack swamp with boardwalks and has plants and trees identified along the way. Very interesting! The park staff were friendly and helpful and our site was awesome! We will be back!
Visited here twice this week, once on a sunny, warm day and once on an overcast day. Very much enjoyed both hikes - the first day heading toward the conversion of two major bike trails, the second day aiming toward the bog trail. Also visited here late summer several years ago and had a similarly nice hike. Very quiet on a post-Labor Day weekday. The trails are generally level, so there is not the hills and valleys that you will find at some parks.
It is quite quite amazing that the Mighty Mississippi has such humble beginnings! Completely accessible walk to the headwaters. A very nice history building, and beautiful drive around the park. Ideal place to bring children.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Lake Bemidji State Park! We hiked two trails and enjoyed the natural beauty of the forest, lake and sandy beach.
My wife and I had a little picnic lunch here, then went for a walk on the trails. Most trails are paved. Trails run right along the lake and are mostly in and near the woods so we were protected from the breeze.
Entry charge. Who likes that? Fortunately, the pass I purchased at Itasca covered me here. Loved the bog boardwalk, and the shop had a hoodie at a reasonable price (cold spell came through)
This place was very confusing I really don't understand what the hype was about with this lumberjack dude and his ox it's just a statue and not even well done on the plus side the people in town are chill and some good food
Lake Bemidji State Park is lovely, but there is not a lot nearby. Consider checking out the Bemidji Country Club nearby for lunch if you forgot to pack a picnic for the park!
Bemidji State Park is a wonderful place for all seasons. It cannot be explained here, you must experience for yourself.
Nice paths to wander along. Great in all seasons especially in the Spring with all the wildflowers. Located right along Lake Bemidji, there are beautiful views.
