Bogus is only about a half hour out of downtown Boise. The road to the resort is long and winding, but well worth the drive. Once you arrive you will find a big mountain with many runs, high speed quads and almost no crowd (if skiing during the week). The staff and facilities are first class! The resort is well worth hitting if you are in Boise on business for a few days.
I'm a Florida girl and wanted to try skiing for the first time while in Boise. Getting up the mountain is quite a drive - luckily we had an experienced driver making those twists and turns! When I called the ski school I was given so much info - everything I needed to know - I was happy to schedule and knew they had the experience.I arrived early and got checked in - the girls in the ski school hooked me up with goggles, gloves, a neck warmer thingy (technical name) and would've loaned me whatever I needed. I rented skiis, poles, boots and even snow pants at the rental shop.My instructor was Christian - highly recommend him - he has so much patience and he's cute, too. He helped me make that first glide down the teeny tiny slope in the training area and it was awesome! SO much fun! An hour goes by really fast - I'd recommend getting two.Great place - lodge upstairs has good food - bar has great drinks - I recommend the tawakan cider (might be spelled wrong) - it's delicious and warm.Tip: sometimes the local gas station (Jacksons) has coupons available.
I recommend going to the Bogus Basin Outfitters sleigh ride and dinner. What a wonderful experience and the food is amazing. So beautiful at night on the sleigh.
Staff are friendly, good lodge, about 40 minutes from Boise itself. The mountain itself is not known for powder days. Majority of the year there is crust/ice but when the snow does show up it is so close to Boise you can't go wrong. You can get discounts through jackson gas stations if you don't have a season pass.
Spent the morning enjoying the drive up to the resort just to enjoy an Idaho beer. I didnt do any skiing but the scenic views were worth the drive and just enjoying the mountain air on the drive back down was an easy day for someone seeking soul food.
Bogus Basin has excellent terrain and high speed quads. Plenty of open terrain for powder skiers when the snow flies. After some of the runs on the back side become skier packed, the groomers need to get on them and do a much better and more consistent job.
Great place thats close to home and only takes an hour to get to. Theres runs of all skill levels at bogus including two magic carpets for beginners that can't get on the beginners lift. It was fun watching the kids learn how to ski and snowboard here. The food in the lodge was good and the prices on the lift ticket were great as they run a special at jacksons gas station being if you buy 3 pepsi products you get a coupon for 10 dollers off up to 4 people which brings the price of a night lift ticket down to 12 bucks, not bad in my book!
I've skied at Bogus basin many times. In my opinion, you'll be hard pressed to find more beautiful views of both the city, and the gorgeous tree covered vistas that Idaho has to offer anywhere else. Very nice ski trails with challenges for every skill level. I just stopped going there because the snow-boarders are so rude.
The hill are fair, however, in order to get around, prepare to cat track everywhere. The bathrooms are disgraceful... I mean disgusting. So small there is barely room to open a stall door. They always stink. Please invest in updating for people who actually ski and have gear on. Snow is decent on good snow days, but snow has been slim to none the past couple of years. It's a local resort, so it is much better than nothing. Prepare for the extra windy road up the hill. In all fairness, they do have a couple of high-speed quads, which is nice.
As proximity goes, Bogus is great! It is a quick drive from Boise. I was expecting a small mountain, with average terrain, and I was pleasantly surprised! They had optimal lifts and great variable terrain. You can ski groomers, trees, steeps, bumps, and have a great day!
