I live near this state park and get the park-pass on my licence with Young State Park in mind. It has a lovely beach on Lake Charlevoix, it's an easy bike ride into Boyne City, and the rangers I've encountered are nice. It's everything a campground should be.
Nice park to camp at in the Spring and Early Summer. Beautiful lake shore and nice sandy beach. We stay early in the season when it is easier to find a site and is not as loud. Close to town with nice restaurants.
They allow large high school groups, which are very loud. Also had a family come in next to us and set up there camp at 1am. Had 6 young kids they let run wild through everyone's campsites while they set up camp for 2 hours. Park management said this is not unusual at Young State Park. We won't be back. Ruined our stay and we left 2 days early.
A large family group enjoyed a week of camping at this park. We camped in the Oak Campground, one of 3 campgrounds at this park. Just a short walk to a gorgeous beach on Lake Charlevoix. Some of the camp sites are also right on the lake, but with little ones in our group we chose sites well away from the water. We had 3 sites, #4, 5 and 39 (4 and 39 backed up to one another). They were very large and shady sites. The park is very well maintained, the restrooms and showers are kept very clean. The park overall was very quiet.Boyne City is just a few minutes away and is a lovely little town to visit and find groceries and supplies. Wood for the campfire is sold at the park beach store and just outside the park at several places nearby (for better prices than the store).I would say the only downside is the difficulty in getting reservations at this campground because it is so nice and in a very popular location. The same is true for a number of state park campgrounds however.
Sunsets and beauty abound. Great beach and camping on Lake Charlevoix. Boyne City is a great little town with Friday night stroll the street with music and great restaurants.
The 4 in our party of seniors only spent one afternoon here enjoying the beach & Lake Charlevoix. It’s a short walk from parking lot & to the bathrooms, something you don’t take for granted when you’re a senior. This is a relatively small State Park with a full range of ages enjoying themselves on the beach, in the campground, at the volleyball court & at the swings. We used to camp a lot & so we enjoy walking thru the camp grounds at these parks & this one seemed very nice with clean facilities & some sites on the lake. We were quite impress at how nicely this park was maintained & will return next time we are near Boyne.
We just spent the Fourth of July on this great beach. It's clean and a short walk from parking and bathrooms which is important since we had 6 kids 6yrs and under. Teenagers enjoyed the volleyball and the swings were a nice break from sand castle building. We were not camping this trip but nice facilities to do so.
Wee day dripped here twice from Boyne City. Hiked in the drizzle with our Brittany one day. Returned for the beach and the small kids fishing pond the next. Love Michigan State Parks and this location is wonderful.

Young State Park is our favourite camping spot. We've been camping at Young State park for a number of years. We love the Oak campground and prefer the sites on the water. We have met many friends over the years and look forward to every summer camping at Young State Park. Close to many other beautiful areas for shopping and dining such as Bay Harbour, Petoskey, Charlevoix, Harbour Springs and Traverse City. We have seen many beautiful sunsets and enjoy Lake Charlevoix. This will continue to be our favourite camping spot for many years to come.
