Cabela's worth a look-see, but damn, did they hafta kill and tuff so many animals? It is, of course, a window into an America I don't know, nor really understand, but I do like anthropology.
We drove 150 miles roundtrip to Cabela's. We were at the store for 4 hours. We knew exactly what we wanted, just had issues getting assistance. I wanted to purchase 2 Sig Sauer P250C 40s. I handled the display and loved it. When Ian was given the gun cases from the back, one was new and the other was the display. The display gun box was missing a magazine and it is suppose to come with two magazines. I was told that another magazine would have to be purchased in addiction and no discount would be given. At this point, I only kept the Sig Sauer that was suppose to be a P250C 40 and asked for a Glock 40 to replace the display Sig Sauer. After making a large purchase, to include 600 rounds of 40 cal ammo, I find out today that my Sig Sauer is a 9MM. I immediately call Cabela's at 7pm today and there was no answer, because the store is closed. It is my hope, that when I call to speak to a manager tomorrow morning, that I will be able to return the new and unfired gun and get the correct gun. This was just one of the issues at Cabela's we had on the 3rd of October 2014. Hopefully my faith will be restored.
So much to see, great place to take pictures of the outdoor life, friendly people, good prices! you can spend hours just looking at the different wildlife.
Great store for hunters, male& female alike. Nice little restaurant, incredible aquarium, & the small but adequate wild life museum, with really nice mounted in natural settings, is great! Great store!
The stuffed animal displays and rooms along with the aquarium. It is always interesting to see what is new in Camping and Fishing supplies and Cabela's is the headquarters for that.
Not only for the hunter, but for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. A trip here is more than shopping. Find both entertainment, educational experiences and more! The animal displays rival the best Natural Science Museums.
Very friendly employees. Clean, with tons of sporting goods, clothing, etc. The have an aquarium and numerous animal mounts. Good deals in the bargain cave. They even have a restaurant.
I admit that I'm not an outdoorsy sort of person. There isn't much I would think I need at Cabelas. However...I do love to look at the aquarium. Aquariums are some of my favorite things and the fish at Cabela's always amaze me because there are so many kinds and they are so big! The animal displays in the rest of the store are very lifelike as well, but since they aren't living just not as interesting. Cabela's did have some good prices on tubes (the kind you pull behind a boat) and ropes to go with them. That's mostly what we bought there. Their shoe variety was acceptable, but not mind blowing. I see something new every time I go and when my husband says he wants to go I have to admit that I say yes every time. Plus, if you are there you are close enough to the San Marcos Outlets that it's easy to dash over there too.
This visit to Cabellas was to purchase a Christmas gift listed at a sale price for 1 day only. I called their location in Buda, TX to verify on hand inventory yet, was displeased to learn they would NOT accept over the phone or online purchases for items listed at sale prices...the 70 mile rt drive from north Austin was very inconvenient but, I suppose a $100 (50%) savings made it worthwhile. The '1 day in store only' sale price strategy is obviously a ploy to draw shoppers into their store locations in hopes of gaining additional/impulse purchases...didn't work with me & will definitely cool my interest in shopping at Cabellas in the future! Customer service is key, particularly as holiday shopping approaches!
It is a nice large location with even a restaurant upstairs inside. There seemed to be many employees on the salesfloor to help if needed and the decor was very nice. I enjoyed taking pictures and shopping here for about an hour.
