We were staying in Brooklyn on holiday and heard about Smorgasburg and so visited both of its locations (Williamsburg and Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5). The variety of food was outstanding and reasonably priced - with the bonus of both locations having fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline across the water. Highlights for me included Bite Me Cheesecakes, Dunwell Do-nuts and amazing Octopus balls at a stall whose name escapes me at the Williamsburg location. It's great because the vendors are so friendly and the atmosphere is great - I wish I could go back every week! (If only flights from the UK were cheaper!)
My friend suggested we go here, she's vegetarian and even she couldn't believe the number of veggie burgers and food on offer for the non meat eaters. One of the best days we had in Williamsburg.
Amazing place! Everything you want to eat in just one place, I wish some of the places offer so my kind of degustation menu so you can try everything thanks to the small portions, but is just a fatty thought. I went to 2 places, teriyaki balls and seafood fritters. Both of them great! Good quality and portion for value.
We loved Smorgasburg, we were staying in Murray Hill so took the East River Ferry across which took about 20 minutes. You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to the food here - we had to go round a couple of times before deciding what we were having - I would advise skipping breakfast before you come, you could spend the day grazing ! I would personally recommend the Teriyaki Balls (and watching them being made was also an education !) but my friends also had Maple Lemonade, Won Tons, Veggie Schnitzel, miniature cheesecake, the list goes on...This is a nice fun thing to do if you're visiting Brooklyn for the day - we came here, went to the Brooklyn Brewery for a couple of beers and then came back for more ! You also get great views of Manhattan if you're looking for a pic of that iconic skyline...
one of the best food festivals I've ever been to--we were there in November so no lines and amazing food. fun neighborhood to walk around. Expect to spend about $10 on everything you buy but we were not disappointed. Great soup desserts meats
A friend told us about it so we choose to go on our Brooklyn trip on Saturday and stopby. Good choice! The event takes place in Williamsburg wich is a nice place to hang out, and after getting there you got plenty of food to decide from. The ambiance is fun and familial
Open air alternative food market on Williamsburg. Young people eating and enjoying the Hudson river banks. Cheap options, international flavors, music and cold drafts.
check out Ovenly and the Thai spots. Plenty of tables. Adjacent to Berg'n and to Brooklyn Flea. Many choices.
As a cultural experience this is pretty awesome. The highest quality ingredients in a mashup of ethnic and creative dishes. It's a no brainer for when you don't crave on specific thing. The vendors have to apply and be approved, so the culinary level is high - not like Michelin star snooty, just good yummy food, some of it quite inventive. Make sure you bring lots of cash; it's not that kind of food truck cheap street near experience. We spent a good $40 per person when we went (the lobster rolls might've tipped the balance...)
Food carts on a nice day in the park... It's the perfect thing to do on your day off. Make sure you bring an appetite and cash as some places don't take card. I would also wear comfortable clothing/shoes and pack light as you can walk around and take in some pretty sights on a nice day. I'm one that likes choices and Smorgasburg has choices from as simple as grilled cheeses to as savory as Indonesian or Brisket to as eccentric as Teriyaki Balls and Bruffin... oh and there's dessert too -- ranging from ice cream to cupcakes to macaroons. This is now probably one of my favorite things to do when I go to Brooklyn. I recommend getting there closer to the beginning or middle as they run out of things toward the end of the day. Also, try a few different carts and go with a few people... but you won't get to try everything you want. I look forward to the next time I go.
