Cozia is a place where history and religion walk together hand in hand. The Monastery was built in 1388 by the Romanian prince Mircea the Elder who died in 1418 after a glorious reign of 32 years, being buried inside the big church of Cozia. The portico and the church inside walls are all covered with amazing frescoes and mural paitings depicting biblical scenes, there are trully a masterpiece and have a great artistic and documentary value. The Monastery is located on the banks of Olt River and offers a beautiful view of the hills and mountains on the opposite side of the river.
besides the fact that it's a most beautiful orthodox monastery, it is placed on the national road, so it's a pitty not to stop and visit it when you drive on this road; one can have both spiritual fulfilments and also enjoy the beautiful garden full of flowers, the museum, the vew of the Olt river.
This is a very famous and working monastery, and well worth a visit. There is a DVD in English (which you can also purchase) that covers the history and present day workings of nthe organisation. we visited late in the afternoon when the evening prayers had started and that is a great time to be there. In almost every respect this is a great attraction to visit, on our visit only being marred slightly by the monk who was on reception duty. He was not at all interested or engaging to any arrivals, rather chatting to one of the nuns. Apart from that, it is highly recommended.
In Romania you can find a lot of monasteries, but some are more special than others, this is one of them.
beautiful surrounding, next to the olt river, nice architecture+ paintings+ beautiful inner courtyard

Centuries old monastery, I visited in June for a few hours, i was lucky not to find it very crowded since no Orthodox celebration at that time. Very peaceful place and just a place to enjoy in itself.
