I absolutely love this place! It is like stepping back in time! 5 dollars per student and WHAT an education! Our homeschooling group LOVED it! My favorite part of Historic Camden is the 1st week in November! The Battle of Camden is EPIC! 500-600 reenact ors. The place is all set up like a Revolutionary War camp. GREAT SHOPPING and FOOD available! You must go! If it were not for SC we would still be British subjects! Go to Historic Camden and find out why!
You get a good impression of the 19th century settlement and also interesting information about Camden's role in the civil war.
We were able to take the dogs with us on a nice, quiet visit to this war site. Plenty of markers with details. Nice place to visit and would recommend it as a outing for family and kids, etc. Take a picnic lunch, blanket and something to drink as there are no tables, chairs, drink machines, etc.
I had visited the site once before and was able to get service at the office and take a your. However, this time we were visiting with family from the West Coast and we were greeted by very unfriendly staff. Office never opened and staff rushed us out of the way because of school tours. Nothing about school tours or designated hours was posted on site or online. My family was really shocked by the rudeness and it pretty much ruined their perspective of the town of Camden.
This is where the Kershaw-Cornwallis house sits. It is not the original, that was burned down, but they have reconstructed it on the same site, just like it was. There are other houses on the site also. You can get a real feeling what it was like back in the time of the Revolutionary War.
I have been here once for a field trip with elementary school children and once for our family's favorite event (1st weekend in November- battle of Camden reenactment). Outstanding history, beautiful buildings and grounds. We love it! Over 500 reenactors for Battle of Camden and wonderful unique items for sale! The staff are extremely knowledgeable! Bring a picnic...lots of tables under shade trees. Wonderful food available at reenactments and I highly recommend their field trip. All the parents were enamored and they & the students LOVED it! Great value!
This was a nice way to spend the afternoon. Just a short distance from Columbia. A pleasant drive to this historic site.
a great place to visit to reacquaint an important time in our country's history. I feel that with increased traffic the site could enhance and expand
I enjoyed leisurely walking through the buildings and looking at the artifacts. The descriptions of the items look to be 1970s quality and need badly to be updated. Some Federal funds could really bring the presentation to today's standards like is the case in NC and Virginia.
I am a history buff, I didn't do a tour, it was a hot day, but enjoyed a short visit. I will definitely come back and visit Camden and visit all of the places of interest
