This is a unique modern art collection with a wonderful display of commerative plates by Picasso on a theme of the bullfight. The collection is small but highly interesting with works by Matisse and many other French artists of the 20th century. There's always an individual exhibition on display, a great gallery shop selling exhibits and greetings cards, books and stationary. Right in the middle of Ceret, the museum is well positioned for cafe culture and restaurants.
Well laid out and not too large museum. Loads of work by the master, including lots of painting on ceramics. Major display of works about bull fighting.
We were amazed to find an extensive Picasso exhibit regarding regarding his love of bullfighting including photos, sketches, paintings and ceramics. This may be a travelling exhibit. Also there is a famous dove drawing by Picasso apparently done for the museum. In the small collection were a couple Chagalls and a Gris (Le Journal) as well.
Both the permanent collection and the current bull-fighting exhibition are excellent. Much of the art focuses on the beautiful village of Ceret itself and features some wonderful artists such as Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Matisse and Masson. You can have a lovely stroll around Ceret itself.
This museum showcases several artists who, mostly unknown outside France, made an obviously seminal contribution to the evolution of Cubism as a modern art style. This alone makes a visit to the museum worthwhile. In addition, there was a retrospective exhibition of art representing bullfighting as a social and cultural tradition that was important in Catalonia of which this area ofFrance has cultural and linguistic links. Pablo Picasso's contribution in the form of series of ceramic pieces and other works is especially well represented. While several pieces exist in various collections, never have they been presented together in a single venue as they are here.
Always has fascinating exhibitions, beautifully displayed. Have never been disappointed so nothing to dislike.
We are regular visitors to Ceret and always look forward to visiting the Musee. The museum is not large but the exhibition spaces are beautifully laid out and, when we have visited, never crowded; always a bonus! The museum shop is small but offers a good range of books and particularly ceramics from the area.
this musee is awesome:!! each year we anticipate yet another exciting presentation of a catalane artist, contemporary or historic. I have been awed each time. Well worth a day trip to Ceret.
A great place to visit. We went with our children ages 8 and 15 and they really enjoyed looking at all the art.
Fascinating, Whether you like modern art or not, this museum offers a very well informed visit and has some great modern art. We have visited a three times and there is often an exhibition and well worth seeing, Worth the entrance fee.
