The facility is spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated inside and out. The hotel rooms are also spacious and comfortable. All the employees we encountered were friendly and cheerful. We stayed on a Monday so the facility probably was not as crowded as a weekend, so the smoking issues as mentioned in some reviews was not much of as of an issue for us. I thought the smoking was just like other casinos; the smoking is disconcerting when a person sits next to you and lights up and blows the smoke in your face. I had the same luck as I usually do gambling at casinos-not much. We watched a few people win small amounts, but did not see any big winners. We ate our dinner meal at the Cadillac. While our server was trying, we thought he could have done a much better job. The food portions were generous and the prices were a little above average but not outrageous. The taste of the food was good, but again nothing to brag about. My fish tacos were delivered a good ten minutes after the rest of the party had already received their meals. We decided to try the breakfast buffet since on this Tuesday people 50+ with their loyalty card could eat for $8.99. The buffet was easy to walk around and there was a variety of choices, more than I have seen at other buffets. I enjoyed my selections. Other members in the party enjoyed most of their selections. We noticed the nice pool area and would like to try it when the weather is better to be outside. Also hoping to see special deals for hotel rates if we decide to return. The resort fee is $5.00, so hopefully it does not increase.Overall the stay was enjoyable.
This casino is brand new. Had nice stores; several restaurants to choose from (some of them don't open until noon). The casino floor was clean and very spacious.
The Casino is breath taking.Take a stroll around the property and, enjoy everything it has to offer inside,or outside.I'm not sure why the beverage servers take so long to wait on you.I wish Tillman would add a self service refreshment area for his guest.I do not like to be ignored at some of the open bars for a beverage. This has happen to me several times on my visits to the casino.Managers need to make spot checks on their employees to make some observations when dealing with the casino guest.
New casino with all the bells and whistles of Vegas. Eaten at three of the Landry's restaurants and the food, drinks and service were excellent. Event center small enough to provide a great view of the stage performance. Gambling area open and provided excellent playing opportunities while drinks were readily served. Great scenery inside and out. Overall worth the trip!
The Golden Nugget in Lake Charles is a short 2 hour trip from Houston and a nice weekend getaway. The casino is nice, but the best attraction is Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse. It's a great time to gamble some and have an excellent dinner. This will be a repeat visit.
Visited Jan.19.The rooms are very nice and luxurious. Food choices outstanding and good. The slots were still behind Cushatta on latest variety and decent payback..The best thing about this resort is the L'Auberge is next door walking distance.
The people here are friendly and courteous. I enjoy going here often, I am not a big gambler so I am not able to comment much on gambling but have not lost a lot of money here either. I like this place.
Nice - Beautiful decor. Many restaurants from which to choose. Texas Chainsaw Steakhouse - excellent. Fun Casino - good options
This was our first visit to GN in Louisiana. We stayed next door at L'Auberge. The new GN casino is, indeed, swank and BIG. But, with some exceptions, the machines were pretty much the same (and as tight) as at L'Auberge. What was different however - that will keep me losing my money at L'Auberge versus GN - is the dismal attitude of the employee at the customer loyalty card booth and the nickel & diming by GN over a lanyard to go on the loyalty card. The loyalty card desk employee was unfriendly and acted bored with her job (I am sure it is boring but this is the desk where repeat casino customers first go). Her lousy attitude was topped by her telling us, in response to our request for a card lanyard, that at the GN if we wanted one we would have to buy one at the GN gift shop. Nickel & diming. The lack of a free lanyard is a small matter; petty really. But it is the very fact that it is such a small thing that makes it insulting. Customer appreciation is appreciated by the customer. Particularly in a casino - where one is bound to LOSE money - it softens the blow to be treated nice and get free gee-gaws. Holding out on an item that probably costs GN all of 2 cents MAX, seems pound wise and penny foolish. But who am I to argue with the fabulous success of Tilman Fertitta and his Landry Corp (where the food is usually pricey and most is just ok as the reviews here reflect) and its operation of its now plural Golden Nuggets. If customers don't vote with their feet then I guess GN feels it can get away with stuff like this. If this doesn't bother you, then the GN will do just fine. It looks like a classy place. But, it did bother us - both the unpleasant attitude and the pettiness - and we will keep our business at L'Auberge.
I thought I was in Vegas the moment I stepped into the casino! Well decorated, colorful, and all the machines and tables are new and friendly. Several restaurants are all well appointed and have great menus. A great variety, Chinese, steaks, Mexican, seafood, and all delicious, though a bit pricey. Rooms are very unique, with some of them being open bathrooms !!! to the room. Great for romance.......don't get one if you are sharing on a convention. Meeting rooms are world class. Golden Nugget seems to be a notch above.
