I visited there during my stay in Cuiaba at World Cup. Both place attracted me very well, I wish to have a trip there with long term stay.Veu de Noiva, this fall was very attractive. The scene that water is flowing down headlong toward the basin under a waterfall was strongly appeal to my mind. Back ground of this fall is a precipitous cliff it's surface color is red. This color contrast was very attractive. I wanted to went down beside the basin and play in the water. I went some hill, at there, you can see 360 degree panorama. please my photos. The wind at there was comforting and fresh, nice. I can imagine the vast land that spreads out everywhere. That's Brazil.
Really great place on earth, totally different than its surrounding Pantanal NP, for which I highly recommend it. It is a great place for a hike, several of them. Please take a guide in the main town, there are snakes and you do not want to encounter them without antidote.
Chapada is a magic place. Nature, energy, etc. The most important tip I can give is : a personal guide is mandatory. You can find very nice and qualified people. If you decide to visit by yourself I'm sure your experience will be incompleted. If you have doubts please don't hesitate in contact me.
Walking around the park, watching the wanderfull scenario and going tho its water falls and cristalyne rivers with the kids.
This is not really a national park but an area of land that has been closed off and to some extent protected. Many of the main attractions of the park are behind locked gates. Access with guides is expensive and for the privileged few. We could not find one public trail, locate the park visitors centre ( I know it is there somewhere) or even some of the places to visit inside the park. There are a few sporadic signs which are basically useless. We talked to local people who said they had never seen the sites of the park because they are in effect locked out. How can the Brazilian Government and the parks service expect Brazilians to understand and cherish their environment if they have no access to it and just think of it as a playground for wealthy foreigners. Of course, you have to control access to often delicate sites but the mechanism should not be your ability to pay.
For us it was fun! The tour includes seven different waterfalls which u can jump in and swim and refresh as its hot and sunny! Our guid name was sergio! Super nice person and reasonable price!
Fantastic park with a history of big fires and everything. Be sure not just to see the big waterfall. All around the area is small signs that leads to private areas where you for some 5 BRL can go get a little adventure. Especially the view point around sunset is unique and very romantic.
After researching places to go in the area I was very excited to visit this park. Little did I know how difficult it would be to get around, find the attractions and ultimately get further into it than the highway. 251 is a fantastic road that takes you from Cuiabá through the park to the town of Chapada dos Guimaraes on the other side. Once you get into the park the views are spectacular. If you have the time to drive out there and at least see it from the roadside it will be worth it. It is only about 30km from Cuiabá and takes no time at all. The attractions themselves are very hard to find as there are no signs and whatever signs used to exist have been taken away. If you do manage to find an entrance to one of the attractions you will either have to pay at least R15pp to enter or you will be welcomed by a locked gate (most attractions can only be accessed through private Fazendas). We arrived late on Saturday night and were hoping to do a hike in the park. We tried to find Cidade de Pedra based on some online directions. Signs had been taken away but we kept stopping to ask. We eventually got to the right place but the gate was locked. We went into town to try to hire a guide but all the tour companies were closed (they only open Sunday morning). On Monday we stopped by to find out prices and they ranged from R85-R250 per person for a guide for a half day to full day hike for 2 people. Strange thing is you pay for the guide and then drive them around because transport is not included. I read mixed reviews on whether you needed a guide or not but I am telling you that if what you want to see is inside the park then you will need a guide - if nothing else but to access the private Fazendas. So I am rating this park 'very good' based on a very unsuccessful experience because the views were enough for me to believe there is something good to see if you can find a way to get deeper into it.
The national park waterfall is only accessible if you go with a guide that will charge about £40 for a group of 4. Some charge less and if you need a guide I would recommend Marcia Menezes as she is very flexible. This place is worthy to visit, the waterfalls are amazing for hydromasage!
We went to the chapada because our tour guide suggested it was our best chance to spot several bird and mammals species. We were mostly disappointed with our opportunities to see both, although seeing red and green macaws and king vultures was still pretty good. The views from the top of the park and various waterfalls were what we ended up seeing the most. The views are actually more impressive, in my opinion, if you are below and looking up at the plateau than over the flat vista. Similarly, the waterfalls are nothing to write home about. That said, it does offer a very different view of Brazil than the Pantanal. It's worth visiting if you have plenty of time in Brazil, but if you're on a limited trip and unlikely to visit Brazil again, you can probably give it a miss.
