We're about 45 minutes south of Charlestown and took advantage of 3 beautiful days to camp with family. The campground is clean, well mowed, and the bathrooms spotless. The staff friendly and helpful. There are some full hookup camping sites but most have electric only. We arrived on a Tue. and had no trouble getting a full service site. I would't try that on the weekend. They take reservations and I suggest if you're camping on the weekend you make them. The full service camp sites have electric, water, and sewers. This is nice if your staying for a few days or more. There's not a lot to do but if you're looking for a place to sit back and relax this could be the place you're looking for.
We camped here over Memorial Day weekend. Sites were large, bathrooms were clean and the staff was extremely nice. Lots of hiking trails and plenty of area to ride bikes. We will return again. Had a great time.
Great time again... Thanks to a great staff... Camp ground is in great condition. Close to home but yet so far away!
This park has a lot to offer if you take time to explore it. Many excellent hiking trails, easy to difficult. I took a guided tour of Rose Island and found it fascinating! The tour times and dates are listed on the website for Indiana's DNR.
If you have a boat and want access to the Ohio River, this is a good spot for you. Our need was to stay one night en route to a wedding. Upon arrival we were told that due to the popularity of the campground, weekend rates are charged on Thursdays. Our site was $39 plus tax. Had we not been already set up, we would have left. The staff were nice. Grounds mowed. It just felt like we were gouged on the price.
5,100 acres of beautiful rolling hills and valley's adjacent to the Ohio River. One of the largest Indiana state parks, and without question, the most beautiful and well kept secret.
Lots to see and do whileCamping. Full hookup sites are obviously more $$ vs a std electric site. There are mNy nice trails to hike on and lots if history and things to see while here. Rose island is a must see. They are in the process ofInstalling new things there so it will be nice to return when the project Is complete. For those not camping remember that all state parks have the motto "carry out all your own trash". The camping is quite nice, since one of the newest state park facilities it will get better with age ( more shade). The facilities are some of the nicest of all the state parks. Those who like to leave their mark by destroying/ damaging this this is our taxDollars so some appreciation and respect of this fact and remember to be kind to the person following in your place. I will return very nice, very quiet.
Now we may not be the only good thing about Charlestown ; ) but I am glad you share our enthusiasm about our park! Thank you for your lovely review and kind words!
Very clean..nice hikes...nice picnic areas. Excellent park. I would highly recommend it for hikers, campers, or anyone wanting a little peace
We were looking to go camping with our young children somewhere close to Louisville and I had heard good things about it. We did the ranger led tour of rosé island which was great. Very informative and they drive you up and down the huge hill that leads down to it. The campsite was a little bit expensive but the facilities were great and there weren't many people there at all
