Staff very nice, beautiful view of lake.No sandy beach except a small area in day use part. Campsites VERY close to each other.. no privacy or space... very large campground, be aware that the Emerald Ash Borer has destroyed most of the trees here,, staff has already cut down 85 ash trees .. not their fault, but not much shade..
Great place to take ur family camping!! Clean, nice boating! Great food off water!!! Nice party store !!
When given a choice of campgrounds in the Cheboygan area, Aloha tops them all. Located on the shore of Mullett Lake, the view is fantastic and the boating and fishing is hard to beat. My lovely wife will not go to a campground that doesn't allow her to rough it smoothly, so the showers and flush toilets here make it a great spot for smooth camping. There is a nice playground and decent beach, and within walking distance just outside the park is a general store that has some of the best ice cream to cool down a steamy day.
This campground seems to have the most waterfront lots that I have ever seen. You can be parked right next to the lake or on the canal with your boat sitting right there ready to take you out into Mullett Lake and beyond if you wish.
I have not personally been to this park. My rating above is not based on having been there. However, today, April 21, 2014, the DNR announced that the Emerald Ash Borer and arrived in Aloha State Park. According to the DNR:"Department of Natural Resources officials recently have found evidence of the emerald ash borer, an invasive species that targets ash trees, at Aloha State Park near Cheboygan. . . . This season, because of the damage to the trees, campers will see a change in the campground. Ash trees once made up about 85 percent of the trees within the campground. Over the past six months, approximately 400 dead ash trees have been removed from the park. 'The speed at which these trees have died is the most striking thing to me,' said Aloha State Park Supervisor Jeremy Spell. 'Trees that looked healthy during the summer had bark falling off this winter.' "The DNR recognized years ago this could happen. The department has planted around 200 trees within the past five years thanks to grant funding received from the Odwalla Plant-A-Tree Program. We will continue to plant a diversity of trees each year but also recognize it will take a long time before the park looks like it did last year.”Since these trees were in the campground area, the park worked during the winter to remove the dead trees for campers' safety. Park staff is now removing stumps and doing general cleanup at the campground. . . . [T]he campground will be ready for the main camping season, but the park will look very different to those who regularly camp there. Replanting trees is a top priority for the park. For more information about Aloha State Park’s efforts to restore the campground from the emerald ash borer, please call the park at 231-625-2522."
Hiked to lighthouse ruins took us a hr. nice walk along beach. Need bug repellent for the woods lot of mosquitoes
Yes, it's a State Park but it's one of the best you will find! Located on Beautiful Mullet Lake, the Park has all the amenities you need. From boat ramps to playgrounds and everything in between. Fishing, swimming and several events like the recent Paddle Boarder gathering. But get your reservations in early as they are often booked up.
Aloha State Park is one of the larger state campgrounds with almost 300 sites. It's clearly not the best place to go if you want seclusion, but if you are looking to have a good time and interact with others, it's almost perfect. The sites near the front definitely seem to pack people in like sardines, but the further back you go in general, the larger the sites become. If possible, reserve a site between 261-287 for the largest sites and least traffic. It's not rustic, by any means, but you do get a little more breathing room. If you like the experience of a smaller campground , try Cheboygan state park about 20 minutes away. This campground is nice for families with young children because Mullet Lake is calm and shallow for quite a ways out. The sandy part of the beach is limited, but it was enough to entertain my 4 year old for a while. The two areas I would like to see improved are the playgrounds and bathrooms. Considering the size and popularity of this park, it's very surprising they haven't been upgraded. There are actually probably 4-5 playgrounds here with old school metal slides and swings. My children loved them, but they were definitely not accessible if you have a child with special needs or very young children. There were not even any of those baby style swings. It seems like they could easily add one at each park. The bathrooms are dated and while clean and functional, need to be modernized. I'm doubtful they are truly handicap accessible and the sink and showers situation is just strange. In each bathroom , there are probably 6 sinks, but 1 soap dispenser and one hand dryer. These upgrades wouldn't cost much. Each bathroom only has two showers as well. During peak times, the line can get long. There are multiple bathrooms , but you are still looking at around 40 sites sharing two showers per sex. I still feel this is a great park and feels it offers a lot. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to them making some upgrades in the next few years.
The park is bustling with campers of all ages. Ya gotta like people cause they are all around you . Kids and adults alike zip around on bikes and fish the channel. Not a rustic experience but fun nonetheless
We camped here for Memorial weekend. A lot of the sites were under water, but this year has been an extremely wet year. We were able to move from our original site and get on one that wasn't flooded, the campground was very accommodating. There are some very large sites. The sites closer to the water are a bit on the smaller side though. The lake itself is kind of rocky when trying to swim, but the kids said once you walked out a bit it was sandy. They have a huge boat basin for all the boats and a fish cleaning station. My kids had a blast and can't wait to go back. I will say the bathrooms could use a bit of updating, but they were kept very clean. The park rangers did an awesome job keeping the park quiet and enforcing the rules. There is a cute little party store within walking distance of the park, that has ice cream and slushies, and the basic necessities or Cheboygan is only about 10 minutes away. We will absolutely go back.
