Illinois is a hidden treasurer for wine, not necessarily dry varieties, and has long long history of wine production.Owl Creek is on the wine trail, most of which I have visited. By far it has the least appealing selection. Most have the same under taste which for my pallet is not appealing. The setting is fine but getting run down and needs an urgent renovation inside and out. I did not try the ciders so I can not comment.
When we drove up it seemed very small and overrated. But once we walked inside we were proven very wrong in our first impression. The atmosphere was so cozy and cheery! The crowd alone would've told us that it was a desirable place but our own exprence lead us to be complete believers. Very friendly staff and a clean and proffessional enviroment. The wine was fantastic! If the place had been a dump the wine alone would have been its more than redeeming quality. The entire exprence was very good and Id go back anytime!
We stopped in for a wine tasting. $5 to taste 5 wines/ciders and a glass. It was fun to taste and they had a nice deck area, though we didn't use it. This winery's wine was among our favorites in the area.
The dry reds were very good, and the 2 Apple Knockers ciders I tried were great! Good entertainment on the deck as well.
Sweet knockers cider is so delicious! Add to a sunny afternoon sipping on the back deck while listening to a live duo sing and pick -- it doesn't get much better than that... plus their wine glasses are really nice!!
We travel to southern Illinois twice a year to enjoy the Shawnee National Forest, and Owl Creek has become one of our usual stops. The ciders are delicious (especially "Sweet Knockers"), and their deck is a great place to enjoy a relaxing lunch (try their roast beef sandwich). Friendly staff, comfortable deck, good menu.
We stopped her along our journey through the wine country of S. Illinois and we were not disappointed. In addition to wines they also sell and make ciders.
My wife chose a blush wine which was some of the best I have ever had. I chose to sample the coders. They have 5 different ranging from dry to what seemed to be naturally sweet. Being a cider lover, I purchased 5 bottles. We also split a delicious roast beef sandwich. If winery's are one of your choices of how to spend your day, give this place a try.
we enjoy the wine trail and the wineries of southern Illinois owl creek is a little overpriced on it's food and the selection wasn't great the wine was good and we do like the atmosphere.
My little sister used to work at this winery, so we always pay it a visit when in town! My favorite place for sangria!!
