John was both an experienced guide and cheerful guy who is doing what he loves. We caught Dolly Vardens, Rainbows, and then waded in for Sockeyes (3 caught, 2 fileted, by John, and eaten). Expect a great time, they provide all equipment.
Not really sure where to start, there is so much I can share about Kenai River float-n-Fish! All told I have done six trips with them, and they have all been great. John is a really great guide. His knowledge of the river is extensive, and it is a joy to listen to him and see his passion for the river, the wildlife and Alaska in general. The last trip my wife and granddaughter went as well and were equally thrilled with John. Whether you are a die hard angler, beginner or simply interested in the beauty of the Kenai, you will have all your interests fulfilled with Kenai River Float n Fish. I am planning my 2015 Alaskan trip soon and will certainly include another a day or two on the Kenai with John as my guide.
John and his family are awesome! Had some friends in from the lowers and used Float-n-Fish b/c we randomly found it online and they had openings. Turns out it was meant to be. From the 1st time I spoke with Heather on the phone, I knew we were going to be treated well. They were awesome in accommodating and being flexible to our ever-changing itinerary b/c of late and canceled flights. Once we got to Cooper Landing for fishing, it just kept getting better. John knows the river and the land and incorporates that knowledge into some fascinating stories as he maneuvers the boat into the perfect spot for the next cast. We did not expect this great of a time, but we were all blown away by how the entire day went from being until the end. As were were cruising back to town with Heather and the girls as shuttlers, Wagon Wheel blasting from the radio, John's big as hell smile and us (3 friends and me) trying to soak it all in... it was just one of those damn fine days.
This is an awesome place to do. They have professionals taking you on a boat ride that you will never forget! They have knowledge of the area and the fish. You can take a rod and fish along or they provide you with one. The people are friendly and provide a safe boat ride
Cooper Landing is full of fishing guides, this one is different from all the others. We (family with 2 small children) were complete novices and had a wonderful experience. No need to bring any gear. We released all our fish except one huge salmon (caught by my son) who served as dinner for the next 2 days.
So, john meets us at their Tee pee with a big ol' grin like he's the brother I haven't seen in a year. He is excited to start this float! He makes my wife and me feel at home and his excitement is contagious. Fast forward to our day on the water and shores. John knows and loves every mile of this beautiful river. He has forearms like Popeye, no doubt from rowing hundreds of equally delighted fishing clients. He is like a kid on the river, excitedly pointing out this fish, that fish, where to toss a line, and he coaches and cheerleads simultaneously. We are on the fish all day. We are exhausted by the end of our day. If John is too you'd never know it; our host and guide is still "on" as we bring the boat to shore...no doubt because his sweet wife and two darling little girls are there to drive us all back to the Tee pee and our car. A day on the water with John is as close to a trip of a lifetime as many of us are going to experience...and we're going back this summer. Mark Hollowell
We have been fishing the Kenai with John Pearson since 2003. We book a trip or more with him every year. There is no finer guide on the Kenai. John won't tell you because he's a humble man but no one knows The Mighty Kenai River or how to lure trophy trout with a "greedy bead" quite like John!If you're looking for quantity and quality fish on the end of your line, John is the man to take you on the fishing trip of a lifetime.
Our family of five, including three boys ages 9, 12 and 15, all had a blast on our half-day fishing trip with John on the beautiful Kenai River. He provided all the necessary equipment, waders, etc. and a GREAT sense of humor and patient instruction for all of us, even the most novice. I booked with him because of the Trip Advisor reviews, but I soon found out that all the local drift boat guides also recognize John as one of the best of the best. We fished both from the boat (rainbow trout) and in the water (sockeye salmon and dolly varden). Of course, the fishing was great, but simply floating on this scenic river was also so much fun. And, John filleted our salmon (and gave the boys a fun lesson on its anatomy while at it!), after which we had the pleasure of taking back to our rental house and eating for dinner.YUMMY!
If you find yourself in the Cooper Landing/Seward AK area and want a fun and productive day (or half-day) fishing on the Kenai River, call John and Heather 1-855-595-3505. They operate Float & Fish out of Cooper Landing. John is an excellent guide and you will have the opportunity to fish from the boat as well as fishing by wading. We caught three beautiful sockeye salmon. John prepares them for the grill! You won't find a more beautiful locale! Sue
John & Heather,What a wonderful seven mile drift in September 2014. We've never fished underneath such a beautiful back drop in our lives. John's knowledge of the river, the resource, his sense of humor along with his occasional rendition of "Hello Dollie" , made this a trip we"ll never forget! Thanks again....~Ben & Sue
