This is a stunningly beautiful, mostly pristine section of the Amazon in Ecuador. Withe the lower-budget lodges, it makes a visit to the Amazon quite accessible. I would caution you that it is an adventure, so be prepared to be bitten by insects and walk for some kilometers in mud. It is a must-see for those awed by our natural world.
Can I give this like a 100 out of 5? This place was beautiful, the food I had in my lodge was the yummiest food ever! and all the beautiful animals! I cant wait to go again :)
An amazing Natural experience and definitely an area that should be protected. Please visit it, this way you will play a part in conserving the area!
Our experience in the in the Cuyabeno Amazon Nature Reserve was in one worth: "Amazing!". We saw many birds, sever monkeys, some anacondas and were the whole day and night surrounded by pristine Amazon Rainforest. We went to sleep while listening to the nightlife of the Amazon (instead of a teleficion) and woke up with the sound of singing birds (instead of traffic noice at home). It is a great place to escape our busy lives for a moment. Thanks to Magic River and Fairtravel4u for this unforgetteble experience!
A great little introduction to the Amazon. Plenty to see, of course, although the guide was essential.
Was amazing, im so really happy. thank you to the agency for all the excellent service, there is a lot adventures, see animals, and found other life without internet, light, .. everyone need to do it!
We went there 2 weeks ago with 4 day 3 night tour and stay at Siona Lodge. One out of four days no rain. Other three almost rain all time. Wild life are not as much as we expected, specially compare what we see in Kruge National park in South Africa. Walking in raining Jungle with high rubber boots is not so fun. The tour arrangement is pretty well, food is good and nutrition balanced. We sought the fish we ate is from the local river but actually everything is from super market. There are many kinds of monkey and birds. We also saw snakes. We went to local community and get to know the process from cut yucca tree to make yucca cake. To get there is long journey, fly from Quito to Lago Agrio, then two hour bus to port where our tour guilder is waiting there, then almost three hour canoe trip to the lodge.
Stayed here for four nights, amazing variety of wildlife I saw Fishing Bats, Ospreys, Caiman,Howler Monkeys, Piraña , Three Toed Sloth, Pink Dolphins, Nightjars, Roadside Hawks, Macaws, Toucans and much much more besides too much to mention, the accommodation is simple but fits in aesthetically with the surroundings, the food is simple but nourishing, Andreas our guide was first class, just one thing you need to be aware of , the motorised canoe journey to and from the lodge can be very uncomfortable in bad weather make sure you have suitable clothing that can keep you dry because when it rains it rains and you risk getting soaked to the skin so dress appropriately
If you want to go to the Amazon, forget about Peru, just go to the Cuyabeno Reserve in Ecuador. The nature is amazing, great opportunities to see wildlife and the service is better and even cheaper than most Peruvian agencies.
We went for a 5 day tour in the Cuyabeno reserve with Magic River. This reserve is full of life and is considerably cheaper than Yasuni, the other main Amazon reserve. Magic River is a slightly alternative jungle tour, as the first night is spent camping (all equipment provided), and much of the travel is done by paddle canoe, with motorized canoes only used for the trip to the indigenous community and for night time outings. The scenery in Cuyabeno is beautiful and you can fully enjoy the views and sounds of the jungle while paddling, unlike the motor boats which are noisy and scare off the animals. This is a pretty active tour, with 3-4 hours of paddling a day, jungle hikes and swimming. We saw a variety of animals, including a sloth and pink river dolphins. The Magic River lodge is small and intimate, with only one group there at a time (about 10 people). All the food we had was delicious and the staff were great, especially on the first night when my boyfriend was very ill due to a reaction to antimalarial medication.Overall, Cuyabeno is beautiful, and if you're looking for something a bit different, check out Magic River.
