Interesting attempt to explain an artist but not enough content, somewhat repetitive in discussion of symbolism, and no original art. The audio guide was clever - just point it at a marker to get an explanation. The range and chronology of his work was interesting to see. Brief discussions of topics like preparation of paints and making brushes.
Take your time and enjoy this interactive museum designed to bring the world of Vermeer to the viewer. Depictions of his works, an introduction film, interesting displays on light and its effect on his style, and assumptions on what he "could have" meant as he painted his remarkable work. Its a fine place for children over 10 or such and right off the Main Square. Vermeer's is buried in the Oude Kerk nearby (NOTE: No churches in Delft are open on Sunday except for services.)
It doesn't include any Vermeer's original paintings, but you have the chance to see the copies of all of his paintings. This gives you the opportunity to understand Vermeer's evolution during his career, compare and understand the different patterns and have a more global perspective of his works. It is worth visiting it.
尽管在这里你们不能看到真品,但是复制品也很真品一般大小,按时间年份排列,展品都是这位伟大艺术家的杰作。很值得一去,展厅还有短片播放,大约只要花30分钟。
Vermeer Centrum is a fine building turned into a museum in the center of Delft. It is privately run. You can see all paintings of Vermeer and have an impression of his environments in his time. However, all of the paintings are replicates, painted on mediocre quality materials. His paintings are scattered around the world, though some major ones still in the Netherlands, exhibited at the likes of Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) or Mauritshuis (the Hague). It is the visitors judgement to decide whether the entrance fee is worth to see replicates of Vermeer's paintings.
Even though there are no original Vermeers here we really enjoyed our visit and leanred loads. We particularly enjoyed the film.
Winter in Delft is very different from a summer afternoon in this little city painted by the enigmatic master Vermeer, but it has a charm all its own. If you are weary from the cold and the wind and angry at the train station construction site that messes up the entry to the old town, visit the Vermeer Centre and take a cup of tea with a slice of cake. This is not the house Vermeer lived in (that was torn down), but this was the Guild that Vermeer regularly visited while living in Delft, so quite likely some traces of him were left after hundreds of years! The centre is nicely compact, with some hard-to-find books, and on a winter afternoon, exudes the calm and tranquility of a Vermeer domestic interior. The cafe is run by volunteers so do not expect great coffee or service. And no original Vermeers - sorry!
这并不是一座传统的博物馆,然而对于喜欢Vermeer艺术的人,这里还是很值得一游的。这里有著名作品的复制品,还有对绘画技法的讨论。这里还有一个电影短片。
The other really famous Dutch painter ... fascinating insight into Vermeer's life (when not a lot is known about him) and the Dutch art scene and society in the 17th Century. Audio guide very important - I normally don't use them, but here I'd say it is essential. Seeing his paintings without a single painting present was very exciting and I learned so much ... which is not my usual experience of art gallery's. Be careful, it requires around two hours to fully immerse oneself ... we ran out of time.
