This was the highlight of touring the gardens for me, as well as the friends i was traveling with. We visited right at opening on a Friday morning and basically had the grounds to ourselves for a small moment which was great because it offered us a moment to enjoy this sculpture with no one else around.
Okay, we're not art buffs. We came to the Frederik Meijer gardens more as garden lovers than art lovers, and saw mention of a horse sculpture. Then as we walked around the garden and cleared a stand of trees, there was this incredible, beautiful, MASSIVE horse in front of us! We just stopped and stared. To be able to get right up close to it was amazing, you could really appreciate its size and the incredible detail that had been put into it. We also liked the smaller sculpture that was the artists original model, and the information about Leonardo Da Vinci's original idea and sculpture. Whether you are an art lover or not, I defy you to not be impressed by the raw beauty of this sculpture.
In Grand Rapids? Yes, and more. Be awed by Da Vinci's mastery and enjoy one of the rare treasure of Meijer Gardens. Probably the best place to take a significant selfie in GR.
This sculpture in Frederick Meijer Garden is very popular. Along with the huge, full-sized sculpture, there is a brail one and two smaller one to touch. Many people have there pictures taken with this popular attraction.
If it isn't known, this is located within the Frederik Meijer Garden. There are only two of these in existence and one is in Italy so it's quite a treat to have the other in Grand Rapids. Kids and adults both like it though there isn't much to do aside from taking pictures with it. There are a few sketches and informational plaques to the left of it, along with the smaller scale version.
A beautiful installation at Meijer Gardens, it stands strong and graceful with the background of blue sky.
It should be notes that this attraction is located within another attraction (the Frederick Meijer Garden). The Garden is worth 5 stars, while this is worth 3.5 or 4 stars. I rated this a 3 on it's own because the surrounding attractions are more appealing. We spent 30-60 minutes at other parts of the garden, while about 15 minutes here.
So cool! The sculpture is gigantic and you can walk right up to it and take photos!! There is only one more like it in Italy!!!
impressively huge da Vinci horse. a masterpiece that is found in the Meijer Gardens. Can't grasp the magnitude of the horse until you are next to it and feel like such a dwarf compared to it.
The da Vinci horse has never failed to wow my out-of- town guests. It's amazing. Standing by one of the front hooves will blow one's mind at the sculpturing detail.
