Let's start out with some positive aspects:-Nice, clean sand (no trash, glass, cigarette butts or anything)-Seems family friendly-Pretty views-The stairs really aren't so bad...don't get me wrong, there are a lot of them, but I brought my tennis shoes ready for the hike of a lifetime and they're simply not that bad. Stairs are very shallow and the angle isn't very steep. Lots of benches to stop along the way too for those who need a break. My biggest issue with this beach is it's small size and the amount of people there. It appears to be large, but when you get down to the bottom of the stairs it becomes apparent that the area available to the public is smaller than a football field. It is not at all "remote". This beach is "remote" if you like "rustic" camping with electricity and wifi. If you have a family and don't mind a bit of a crowd, this probably would be a fine beach choice for you. However, I had been informed that the biggest appeal of this beach is the privacy and solitude of it and came for the quiet and it was pretty crowded with screaming children all about (on a Wednesday morning). Really not a bad beach if you live in the area and don't mind a bit of a crowd. Definitely not worth traveling much for. To sum up my experience in one word: unimpressed.
The first picnic lunch of the year at a beach that was new to us. Very clean and family friendly. Put on your hiking shoes and climb to the top if you wish.. or just find a quiet place and enjoy the day.
Hello all, This is a secluded and quiet beach. We stayed for 2 hours having a romatic picnic and walk along the shore. There were on a couple other couples. Nothing fancy, simply secluded and quiet.
This beach was out of the way and felt secluded. The negative is the dune climb. It's a killer if you have beach gear to lug but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Use the bathroom before heading here. There are no facilities beachside. There is a port a potty in the parking lot.
is great. if you want to get away from the crowds of Holland State Park go here...nothing but beach. no houses/bldgs just beach. they way it is supposed to be.
Beautiful beach, stunning landscape, crystal clear water, no crowds. The reason there is no crowds - it is a major haul up and down a ton of stairs to get to the beach! I'm used to walking stairs to access beaches in Southwest MI, but this is way more than I've ever seen. Pack everything becuase you wont want to go back to the car, but not too much because you'll kill yourself hauling it. If you can travel light and like to just lay on the beach soaking in the rays and the views, this beach is a gem.
If you like finding a secluded spot that is hard to find, this is the place. Once you find where parking is, be prepared for a 15-20 minute hike over sand dunes to get to Lake Michigan. Breathtaking views, huge sand dunes, you will not forget this place. Hope you have a GPS, since this is a difficult place to find, but well worth the trip. I fell in love with the place, and purchased 10 acres of land 10 minutes away. Maybe someday . . .
There is not much parking at this Township Park. And there is a hefty fine if you park where you are not supposed to. However, if you get a spot and take the hike up and over the dune on the wood stairs, you will be rewarded with a great view and a lovely day at the beach.
Loved the out-of-the way beach on Lake Michigan, but you need to be in good shape to get there! Nearly 350 steps to go up and down!
really nice beach, some super views especially at sunset. You really need to be ready to climb some stairs, however!
