We called in at Seaham on the off chance as it was part of the coastline we hadn't visited before. What a lovely place - the sea was blue and the coastline bathed in winter sunshine. We talked to a local man who was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the coastal walk. We intend to come back and take the coastal path to Hartlepool - perhaps later this year but definitely when the weather improves. Lovely place - nice people.
Waves pounding up the beach, dogs running along the water's edge, couples arm in arm, children playing, the sun just waffling, the wind biting cold. We had hot chocolate and then fish and chips. Heaven.
We live close to Hartlepool and whenever possible we try to visit the coastal area. There are some stunning walks, deserted beaches and lots of fresh air. This area is definitely worth a visit on a weekly basis where you can take in the scenery, breath in the clean air and get away from it all.Miles of walks where there are no ice cream shops, Fish and Chip smells and no amusement arcades, perfect!
Great for seeing the coast. If you are from a city, lovely to see the beaches and sea.Good day out from a quite beach at Seaham and Sunderland to more activity at South Shields.Easily accessible from Durham by bus.Good day out for everyone, and for the photographers among us.
There are Northerners who remember Seaham in its coal mining days who have never visited for years and who perpetuate the myth that the town is not worth visiting. Well it certainly is! Whatever the weather the beach is stunning. I love to see the waves lashing over the pier or on a calm day wander on the pebbled beach looking for sea glass. Seaham now seems to embody cafe culture as there are so many good quality eating places from Lickety Split for your ice cream fix, the Lookout on the harbour for divine scones and other snacks and many others.Hoards of visitors now come to see Ray Lonsdale's cliff top statue of a British Tommy the minute after WW1 ended. The main street is tired and not yet up to the standard of the sea front but given time and effort it could be another attraction because the people of Seaham have vision.
Drove through here after meaning to for years of passing on train to Edinburgh. Absolutely stunning coast, fantastic drive. Great places to stop and eat and just walk for miles with stunning views.
