Located in the drum tower of the Londonderry wall. The Museum tells the story of the Spanish Armada and the ships that sank, with items from one of the ships. There is also plenty of other interesting things to see in the Museum.Don't forget to visit the walls and the Cathedral, you can see the murals on the houses from the walls.
This is an excellent museum and really gives an informative and incisive history of Derry from its inception through to the present day. We are from Dublin but we learnt so much on the tour and really came away with a balanced understanding of how the city and its people developed over the centuries. We visited the museum prior to taking the open topped bus tour and I would highly recommend anyone to do this. We felt that we were so well informed already that we could enjoy the trip even more. As previous reviews have mentioned the views from the top of the building are excellent. Apart from the cities history, there is also an exhibit on the Spanish Armada as one of the ships was wrecked in the sea to the north of Derry. I would definitly recommend this museum to anyone visiting Derry.
A museum telling the story of how Derry came to be, how the double name, Derry / LondonDerry came to be, The war, the sieges and the experiences during the troubles. And there is a nice view from the roof.
We were in the city working and took some time out to visit the museum. We were very glad that we did - the Armada exhibition is very well laid out and was very informative and interesting. A great mix of exhibits, information panels and interactive content. The staff at reception (Olivia and Liz) were very friendly and helpful and were able to answer all of our questions.Highly recommended for anyone who is in the area.
I visited this about 6 years ago and their was no charge, but their is now an admission fee. If it's your first visit to the city worth a visit
